MOL Develops New Graduates for Logistics Sector

                The Deputy Labour Minister awarded certificates to 332 logistics trained people and confirmed preparations to deliver quality bachelor’s degree workers to companies. The training guarantees that 100 percent of successful participants will get employed.

                On September 10, 2020, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat presided over the seminar on the direction of human resource development in logistics and delivery of quality workers at the undergraduate level in the transport business and international trade industry. She also awarded certificates to 322 people who passed the training. The Department of Skill Development’s Director-General Mr. Tawat Benchatikul, businesses in logistics, the International Freight Forwarders Association, Secretary-General of the National Economic and Social Development Council, and other relevant parties also joined in the certificate presentation ceremony at the Grand Ballroom, 3rd floor, The Emerald Hotel, Ratchadaphisek Road, Din Daeng, Bangkok.

                Prof. Narumon said the government led by Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha, has focused on the logistics industry, which is a cornerstone of its economic development. It is a mechanism that transmits the value of goods and services from the manufacturer to the consumer’s recipient, so an efficient logistics system will reduce costs and increase the competitiveness of the overall economy. Logistics personnel development requires an integrated approach between departments. It focuses on developing new workforce potential, which those who have graduated with a bachelor’s degree to have a job and a stable income.

                The Deputy Labour Minister further said that new graduates who join this program would develop their competencies in line with their actual work and start work immediately with guaranteed employment. Businesses will benefit from increased workforce productivity and a raised skill level for a higher potential workforce. This will concretely increase the competitiveness of companies. This collaboration model will contribute to the bachelor’s degree trained by the Department of Skill Development to promote employment and income. It will help solve or alleviate the problem of unemployed bachelor degree holders and can be used as a model for developing skills to meet the needs of companies and promote the overall quality of workforce productivity in the nation’s industries.

                Mr. Tawat Benchatikul added that the Department of Skill Development, in collaboration with the International Freight Forwarders Association (TIFFA), conducted a training course in the transportation business and international trade for unemployed graduates who wish to work in logistics. The training aims to develop skills and characteristics to meet the needs of businesses. This is in line with the policy to resolve the issue of unemployed graduates and encourage employment after completing the training. The training is further aligned with the 20-year National Strategy and the 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan to enable Thailand to upgrade its logistics system to become a regional center for trade, service, and investment in the region. In 2020, a total of 332 people was trained. Affiliates of the International Freight Forwarders Association (TIFFA) hired 57 people who have been hired, and 47 others are interviewing for employment to match their knowledge and ability. Another 218 people were deployed to companies for an internship (practical training) for two months, and from the past statistics, all trained people were 100 percent employed.
