MOL Hosts ASEAN Senior Official’s Meeting to Drive Formal Employment System of Decent Work

          The Ministry of Labour hosted the 12th ASEAN Senior Officials’ Working Group Meeting and the ASEAN Regional Meeting to promote the transition from informal employment to employment in the system, taking place between August 6th to 8th, in Chiang Mai. The meeting aimed to drive the implementation of the labour dimension in accordance with the ASEAN Labour Minister’s plan, to create awareness of the transition to a system of decent work.

 

 

          On August 6, 2019, Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Phattana Phanfak, led the group attending the 12th ASEAN Senior Officials’ Working Group Meeting and the ASEAN Regional Meeting to promote the transition from informal employment to employment in the system. Chiang Mai Provincial Governor Mr. Supachai Iamsuwan, gave a welcoming address at the event, which will be held between August 6 to 8, 2019, at The Empress Premier Hotel, Mueang, Chiang Mai. The meeting was held to follow the progress of the implementation of the SLOM-WG plan 2016 -2020, discuss the preparation of the new SLOM-WG plan 2021 – 2025 and the implementation of issues overlapping cooperation in other branches as well as external parties. The meeting also exchanged views on research projects to promote the transition from informal employment to formal employment in the system.
          Mrs. Phattana said that this meeting included heads of delegates at the divisional director level, SLOM-WG representatives from ASEAN member countries, the ASEAN Secretariat and representatives from international organizations, totaling 70 people. Topics included the draft of the new SLOM-WG program for 2021 – 2025, accelerating the implementation of dimensions that have not yet been implemented, preparation of the ASEAN Labour Inspection Conference and the ASEAN Regional Tripartite Social Dialogue Conference. The results of the meeting will drive the implementation of the labour dimensions in line with the ASEAN Labour Minister’s plan for 2016 – 2020 and is an opportunity to exchange ideas to seek the direction of ASEAN member countries after 2021, as well as creating awareness about change of employment from informal employment to employment in the system, to reach decent work.
