The Ministry of Labour’s Provincial Office of Skill Development in Satun organized a training course on boat engine repair technicians for the Pak Nam Fisherman’s Association, La-ngu, Satun. The training promotes the understanding of working principles of the engine and information on checking, repairing and maintaining boat engines to reduce household expenses and apply knowledge and skills in fishing.
On June 28, 2019, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol presided over the opening ceremony of the training course on boat engine repair at Ko Phetra National Park, La-ngu, Satun. Deputy Permanent Secretary Pol.Maj. Romyong Surakitbanhan, the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General Mr. Suchart Pornchaiwiseskul, the Director-General of the Department of Employment Mrs. Petcharat Sinauy, the Social Security Office’s Secretary-General Mr. Ananchai Uthaipattanachep, Satun Provincial Governor Mr. Jaruwat Kliengklao, Satul Provincial Skill Development Office’s Director Ms. Suksri Laosikam and the ministry’s executives also joined the occasion. In 2018, the Pak Nam Fisherman’s Association, La-ngu, Satun, coordinated with the Office of Skill Development in Satun to organize training on the essential maintenance of boat engines for members, to develop skills and knowledge of the ability to repair engines to be able to reduce household expenses and so that members can help each other without having to hire a technician from elsewhere.
At present, the Pak Nam Fisherman’s Association, La-ngu, Satun has 12 committee members and 71 members from the grouping of villagers and coastal fishers in the area where there is a mangrove forest that is not suitable for cultivation. However, the area has the potential to cultivate coastal aquaculture and conduct local fishing. Local fishermen have adopted a 1 – 3 cylinder engine and 4-cylinder engine to be used as a propulsion vessel for fishing but still lack the knowledge and ability to repair and maintain the engine when the engine crashes, causing them to be unable to work or leave the vessel several times a day, and having to lift the engine to repair in different garages in La-ngu district and Satun, or hired a technician to make repairs in their area which can be costly. Sometimes the fishermen have to stop for several days, causing a lack of income to support the family.
The Ministry of Labour’s Skill Development Office in Satun organized the training course for boat mechanic repair for members of the Pak Nam Fishermen’s Association, La-ngu, Satun, to provide the understanding on the working principle of the engine, and understand ways of checking, repairing and maintaining the boat engine by themselves, thereby reducing costs. The fishermen can apply the knowledge and skills to use in their daily life, which can help reduce household expenses too.
