Mr. Suchart said that the COVID-19 situation has greatly affected the employment and livelihood of employees. The Ministry of Labour considers that in such situations, the important thing that will lead employees to overcome obstacles and have a good quality of life is adopting the sufficiency economy philosophy as a solution to the problem. Thus, the Ministry of Labour designed the concept of a good labour project following the sufficiency economy philosophy, which aims to improve the quality of life of employees, that supports and encourages employers to provide welfare on top of statutory requirements for employees, so that establishments allocate existing resources for employees to use. For example, providing empty areas around the workplace for employees to use their free time after work to cultivate vegetable gardens and raise animals produced by employees to exchange and consume in the household. The remaining produce from consumption can be sold in the community. The initiative reduces the burden of expenses and increases income for employees. It also enhances the knowledge of new agricultural theory for employees, which is supplementary career development for employees entering retirement age, becoming self-reliant, and sharing happiness with their family, colleagues, employers, and community. It is considered a good foundation for improving the quality of life and the development of the economy and society of the nation.
Mr. Suchart said that the Ministry of Labour assigned the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare to select the model enterprises for the good labour project. This year, 99 establishments across the country have focused on the topic and participated in the project. Nine establishments were selected to be the model establishments, namely 1) Saraburi Sugar Co., Ltd. 2) KS Mold Parts Co., Ltd. 3) Gamma Industries Co., Ltd. 4) Boon Rawd Asia Beverage Co., Ltd. 5) Doi Silver Factory Co., Ltd. 6) Isan Palm Industry Development Co., Ltd. 7) Mitr Phol Sugar Co., Ltd. 8) Green Spot Co., Ltd. and 9) Seafresh Industry PCL. Awarding the model establishments today was an honour, whereby such organizations should be praised. This will be a good model for business establishments across the country in providing appropriate labour welfare for employees’ benefit, having a good quality of life, and the sustainable development of the country following the philosophy of a sufficiency economy.
