MOL Prepares to Expand Skilled Thai Workers in Japan in 14 Career Fields

                On June 26, 2020, at 10.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol chaired the commencement of the meeting to clarify operational guidelines for hiring skilled workers to work in Japan. The meeting was with organizations that deploy workers abroad under the technical training program in Japan, for 51 organizations through the video conference system. The meeting took place at the job training room before overseas deployment, 11th floor, Social Security Office Building, Bangkok Area 3, Ministry of Labour.

                Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Suoksol said that the delivery of Thai workers to Japan is a matter that the Ministry of Labour focuses on and continuously monitors. On February 4, 2020, the Ministry of Labour has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on basic information for the organization and accommodation of skilled workers (MOC) with four relevant agencies in Japan, including the Ministry of Justice. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Health, Labour and Welfare, and the National Police Agency. The MOC was designed to promote the delivery and acceptance of labour with specific skills from Thailand to work in Japan, ensuring a smooth transition, resolving problems of deployment and receiving, and issues of staying in Japan as a skilled worker. The effort is for the protection of labour which will bring mutual benefits for both countries. Skilled labour with specific skills include 14 preliminary career fields, including care work, cleaning of buildings, production of mechanical parts and tools for industrial assembly, the machinery industry, the electronics and information industry, the construction industry, the shipbuilding and ship machinery industry, car repair and maintenance, the aviation industry, the hotel industry, agriculture, fishery and aquaculture, food and beverage production and the service industry. In the first phase, Japan will open 4 career fields, namely care work, the construction industry, building cleaning management and agriculture, which have a maximum duration of 5 years.
