On April 30, 2013, officials of Office of Labour Affairs in Japan, led by Mr. Suchart Sangurai, Counsellor (Labour Affairs) and Ms. Chitllada Bamrungchit, Interpreter, and Mr. Nirund Umemura, Coordinator, travelled to Ibaraki prefecture for an orientation ceremony for 18 Thai trainees at Nihon Chikusan Shinkou Jigyou Cooperative Association (NCS), a recipient company.

During the ceremony, the officials advised Thai trainees how they should live in Japan, acknowledging they might to not be used to rules and regulations in the country but said they should endure and try to comply with the regulations.

“They can always ask employers and trainers if they are not sure about anything. Try to understand things before do them, otherwise they might get into trouble,’ the officials said.

They said trainees in food processing and agricultural sectors including boar/chicken raisers and egg farming, in particular, must strictly comply with hygienic regulations, otherwise they might get consumers of those products into trouble.

They also urged trainees to spend their free time usefully, recommending that they should spend their time practicing Japanese, so they have higher employment opportunity once they complete their training.

The officials also warned trainees about being deceived to work elsewhere by brokers, saying that they will become illegal immigrants if they accept offer from these brokers. Trainees, who take the offer, very often end up being taken advantage of by a new employer, who pay them less than what promise, and charge them commission fee. The trainees also have to be responsible for their own accommodation and other expenses.

The officials gave the trainees name cards saying that they can contact officials at association or Office of Labour Affairs in Japan, if they have any problem.
