On 16 July 2010, Office in Labour Affairs in Singapore visited Thai workers at Ed Zublin Singapore, a German company operating pipe construction and small and large wastepipe laying produced and imported from its branches in Thailand. The company employs approximately 85 Thai workers and 2-3 assistant project managers from Bangladesh. At present, there are 7 wastepipe laying projects in Singapore. Site P5 is a large pipe laying project, located at Bedok Channel with Thai project manager and 5 Thai workers are employed. Site RC3 is a small pipe laying project to connect with large pipe, located at Tampanis Link nearby Chinese temple. This site employs Thai project manager receiving a minimum wage of SGD 23. Also, Thai workers have signed a contract for at least 18 months which allows day and night shift. The company provides accommodation and responsible for rental fees and foods. In addition, the company has also planned to send Thai workers to work in Abu Dhabi and Australia.
