Permanent Secretary for Labor revealed that the quality of life of fishermen is improved

          Mr. Jarin Chakkaphark, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labor special lectures on ‘The launch of the findings from the Baseline Study on Labor, Fisheries and Seafood in Thailand’ at the Anti-Trafficking Working Party Meeting in the Fisheries and Seafood Industry. 6/256 at Rattanakosin Room, 1st Floor, The Sukosol Hotel. This research is the first research done in Thailand covering the fishing sector and the aquatic processing industry. The “Ship to Shore Rights Project” is a collaboration between the Thai government, the Ministry of Labor, the European Union and the International Labor Organization to prevent and reduce unacceptable behavior in the fisheries and aquaculture industry in Thailand. It was conducted from March to April 2017 by interviewing 434 fishing and related workers in 11 coastal provinces. The survey covered the issues of employment, wages, working hours, safety and health, support services, complaint mechanism and the living conditions. Fishing workers receive higher wages and written contract. Employment Less than 18 years old, less than 1%.

 

          Permanent Secretary for Labor stated that the findings from the study on baselines on fisheries and fisheries in Thailand will be useful for all sectors that will be important information to solve problems. This is a great way to measure progress. This will lead to the improvement of the quality of life of Thai fishing and seafood workers, valuable work, and leads to achieving the goal of achieving sustainable development in the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on the Rights of the Child (SDGs), specifically Goal 8, Employment, Values and Economic Growth that will not leave behind.
