Content Description

The Permanent Secretary of Labour emphasized that the Office of the Permanent Secretary of Labour has integrated its work in the overall picture of the ministry, collecting knowledge about the world situation, government policies, local events, development and facilitation of people on the digital platform.

Today (August 14, 2019) at 09.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol presided over the opening ceremony of the workshop to create knowledge and understanding in transferring strategies to practice. The occasion took place at the Jompol P. Phibunsongkhram Room, 5th Floor, Ministry of Labour. The Permanent Secretary of Labour said, “The Ministry of Labour’s Office of the Permanent Secretary is an important unit that integrates the work of the ministry. The Ministry of Labour has a variety of work dimensions which covers many groups of people. This includes the general workforce, migrant workers, disabled people, the elderly, informal workers, and students entering the labour market. Therefore, harmonious work is of the utmost importance to achieve results and truly benefit the people.”
“For future operations, the Permanent Secretary of Labour emphasized 3 issues. The first issue is integration, whereby the Office of the Permanent Secretary must be a leader and initiator of policy change within the Ministry of Labour and convert this into practice. This is to ensure the ministry’s services meet the needs of the people in the area comprehensively, including employment, skill development, labour protection and welfare, workplace safety and social security. The second issue is knowledge about the world situation, government policy and events in the area. The Ministry of Labour officials must keep up, know the situation, and be able to help people in related missions as soon as possible. Past examples include helping Thai fishery workers in Somali waters. The Office of the Permanent Secretary must be quick to coordinate with relevant units and monitor situations for help. This is regarded as one of the important missions of the Ministry of Labour. Furthermore, the office must focus on academic knowledge, both economic and social terms, including index numbers or indicators in areas such as GPP, unemployment and provincial inflation, because they all affect the operations of the Ministry of Labour. Therefore, provincial labour representatives must know all relevant matters. The third issue is the development and facilitation of people on the digital platform by linking agencies and other related units. The Big Data system must be developed to analyze and affect policy formulation, such as the number of insurers who receive the minimum wage, number of establishments that have relocated their production base from the impact of wages, how the data is collected and where to find the data. I want to make this information more in line with the regular performance that we do to set precise and effective policies,” said the Permanent Secretary.
This meeting was for personnel under the Office of the Permanent Secretary, working both centrally and regionally to know and understand the direction of the organization’s operations. Once known, the information can become a guideline for work that will impact the success of the organization’s mission and strategy. A total of 200 personnel under the Office of the Permanent Secretary of Labour both in the central and regional areas and related agencies attended this meeting.
