Permanent Secretary of Labour Shows Concern for Thai Workers Abroad and Instructs Labour Ambassadors to Create Awareness on the Coronavirus

                The Permanent Secretary of Labour showed concern for Thai workers working abroad. He emphasized for labour ambassador to watch out for the workers, monitor the “Coronavirus” epidemic, create awareness among Thai workers, listen to the news and closely follow the recommendations from the authorities.

                On January 31, 2020, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol spoke about the outbreak of the coronavirus in Wuhan, China. He said that the Ministry of Labour is concerned about workers working in foreign countries. He has instructed the Minister Counselors (on Labour), the Thai Labour Office (Overseas) in all 13 locations, to visit and meet with employers about measures to care for employees, which are the Thai workers in various establishments, about self-care to prevent infection. He also asked for preparation to help in the event the situation does not improve, by monitoring the situation of the outbreak and following the instructions from the authorities closely, together with creating awareness and to inform Thai workers about the situation periodically.

                Mr. Suthi continued to say that the Ministry of Labour has instructed officials from the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, and the Ministry of Labour’s agencies in the area, to meet and talk to each organization, to show concern for employees. He said to emphasize for employees to be aware of their own hygiene to prevent infection, to follow recommendations and closely follow the information from officials.
