Permanent Secretary of Labour Welcomes the International Organization for Migration’s Chief of Mission

            On December 16, 2021, at 14.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong and the Ministry of Labour’s executives welcomed Ms. Géraldine Ansart, Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), on a courtesy call to the Permanent Secretary of Labour. The occasion took place over teleconference at the Prasong Rananant Meeting Room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour.
            The meeting discussed and exchanged ideas and joint actions between the Ministry of Labour and the IOM to provide protection and assistance to migrant workers during and after the COVID-19 outbreak. The IOM presented projects to continue with the Ministry of Labour, namely the Regional Guidelines on Fair Recruitment and Responsible Businesses to Eliminate Exploitation and Trafficking in Persons of Member States under the Bali Process (Cambodia and Thailand Cooperation), the Corporate Responsibility in Eliminating Slavery and Trafficking (CREST) and the Program to Mitigate Poverty through Safe Migration, Skill Development, and Employment in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand (PROMISE Project). The IOM commended the Ministry of Labour for providing fair and non-discriminatory protection to migrant workers, including providing welfare and timely protection during the COVID-19 outbreak. On this occasion, the Permanent Secretary of Labour emphasized the Ministry of Labour’s mission to systematically manage foreign workers, covering all dimensions of labour migration for migrant workers working in Thailand to receive equal rights and protections with Thai workers. The effort is also in line with international guidelines. The Ministry of Labour is ready to continue cooperating with the IOM to achieve the objectives of effective and fair management of foreign workers.
