“Pol.Gen. Adul” Reveals Improved C188 for Fairness, Consistency and Free of Conflict

            The Labour Minister spoke about the progress on the improvement of ILO Convention 188 concerning work in the fishing sector, which is now in the process of listening to all sectors to improve the law for fairness to all parties, be free of conflict and to consider the nature of fishermen. 

         On October 9, 2018, Labour Minister H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo chaired the sub-group meeting with the National Fisheries Association of Thailand, led by the associations Chairman Mr. Mongkol Sukcharoenkana, President of the Pattani Fisheries Association Mr. Phubes Chantnimi, President of the Thai Overseas Fisheries Association Mr. Aphisit Techanitisawad and 13 other presidents of provincial fishery associations, who met with Gen. Adul to discuss the progress of C188 – Work in Fishing Convention, 2007. The Ministry of Labour’s Permanent Secretary Mr. Jarin Chakkaphark also joined the meeting which took place at the Labour Minister’s meeting room on the 6th floor of the Ministry of Labour. The Labour Minister said that today, the National Fisheries Association of Thailand followed up on the progress of ILO C188 concerning work in the fishing sector, which is currently in process of establishing understanding among all stakeholders, emphasizing that all steps must be appropriate and fair to all parties, and simultaneously be free of conflict.
         Pol.Gen. Adul said that the revised ILO Convention 188 concerning work in the fishing sector would need to consider the nature of fishermen in Thailand. Thus, there will be discussions to align all relevant stakeholders and ensure the revisions are aligned with intentions to conclude each issue together.
