On December 19, 2020, Deputy Labour Minister Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat accepted the delivery of air conditioners from Marvel Corporation Co., Ltd., in collaboration on the development of skilled air conditioning technicians between the Department of Skill Development and Marvel Corporation. The initiative is under the policy supporting air conditioning for the development of skills. The company provided 90 air conditioners worth 1 million Baht to the Department of Skill Development to be used in the labour skill standard assessments in the air conditioning technician branch. The company’s Managing Director Mr. Prinya Manwong presented the air conditioning units in the Road to Success 2021 event at the Fortune Room 1-3, Grand Mercure Fortune Bangkok.
Prof. Narumon said that the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development (DSD) has a mission to develop skills for the workforce to have better skills. This is coupled with the Ministry of Labour’s announcement that the electrician career fields in electronics and computers is one that can be dangerous to the public. The building electrician branch is the first branch that must be operated by a person who has received a certificate of knowledge and competence (license) under the Skill Development Promotion Act, B.E. 2555 and its amendments. The Ministry of Labour will continue to promote the certification of knowledge and competence in four other areas, including manual metal arc welders, tig welders, max welders and household and small commercial air conditioning technicians.
The Deputy Labour Minister added that Marvel Corporation supported air conditioners to the Department of Skill Development to be used in the training and national skills standards assessment, which aims to develop the potential of air conditioning technicians to have enhanced knowledge, abilities and skills. It aims to promote skill standards to keep up with technological changes in line with the needs of the labour market, and to solve labour shortages to ensure knowledge, competence and skills in work, in terms of quantity and quality. The efforts support the expansion of the economic system in the future, in which the DSD will deliver the received air conditioners to its departments in each province to use for training and testing of skill standards.
“Skill development for Thai workers must receive support and cooperation from many parties. The workers themselves must focus on continuous skill development to keep pace with modern technology and continue learning. The government sector must management the budget and resources to benefit the people as much as possible. It is extremely important to the development of the workforce to drive the national economy further. Today’s cooperation is therefore a part of civil society participation, working to enhance the skills of Thai workers to have a job encompassing standard skills, and to develop oneself to a higher standard to promote opportunities to receive higher wages following the skill standard wage rate,” concluded the Deputy Labour Minister.
