On July 10, 2024, at 17.00 hours, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, chaired the opening of the 30th National Skills Competition, regional level, at the Prem Music Hall, Thaksin University. From the Prime Minister’s Secretariat’s Office, performing duties for the Ministry of Labour, Mr. Phuchong Worasri, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General, Ms. Bubpha Rueangsud, Governor of Songkhla Province, Mr. Somnuek Promkhieo, the Ministry of Labour’s executive committee, executives from the Department of Skill Development, heads of government agencies in Songkhla Province, the southern provincial group and youths participated in the opening ceremony. The opening ceremonies were held simultaneously in all four regions, looking for over 1,600 youths with quality skills throughout the country to be selected to compete in the national competition. MOL Joins Forces with the Multidisciplinary Team on Intensive Training of Inspection Staff to Progress the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking in Thailand Towards Tier 1

     On July 2, 2024, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, presided over the opening ceremony of the training program for the training course to appoint officials in accordance with the law on the prevention and suppression of human trafficking in the 2024 fiscal year. The Director of the Office of the Secretariat of the Labour Trafficking Prevention Command Center, Ms. Sopana Boon-Long, reported on the event’s objectives. MOL Collaborates with Panyapiwat Institute to Organize Seminar on Creating Salary Structures in the Private Sector

          On June 25, 2024, at 09.30 hours, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, chaired the opening ceremony of the 13th workshop on preparing salary structures in the private sector. The Director of the Wage Commission Office, Ms. Tuangsap Chaweerat, gave a report. The occasion took place at the Panyapiwat Institute of Management, Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi Province.           Mr. Pairoj said that the role of the wage committee is to set the minimum wage rate and the wage rate according to skill standards. It also has the authority to set guidelines for considering wage adjustments based on the economic and social conditions of employers. The Wage Committee has guidelines to encourage business establishments to create their salary structure to adjust wages for employees based on their knowledge, abilities, and responsibilities. Labour Minister Organizes Job Expo 2024, Offering Over 700,000 Position Vacancies, Emphasizing Support For Over 1 Million Thai Workers This Year

The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, reported that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, has invited the public to join Thailand’s most fun income-generating job fair or Job Expo Thailand 2024 between June 28 to 30, 2024, from 11.00 to 21.00 hours at Halls 6 – 7, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. There will be 222 employers/establishments recruiting, offering over 700,000 job positions nationwide to support job applicants. The companies include Minor International, Huawei Technology (Thailand), Thai Airways International, Thai Namthip Corporation, Thai Beverages, and others. There will be 30 overseas employers/establishments offering over 100,000 overseas job positions in countries such as Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Poland, Malaysia, Portugal, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Israel. The most popular positions include construction, welders, the bicycle industry, foremen, and domestic workers, which have a relatively high wage rate. Permanent Secretary of Labour Assigns MOL Inspector-General to Join Subcommittee Meeting for the 36th National Occupational Health and Safety Fair

     On June 18, 2024, at 13.30 hours, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, assigned the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mr. Nantachai Panyasurarit, to attend the Executive Subcommittee Meeting for the 36th National Occupational Health and Safety Fair, 2024, No. 2/2024. Chairman of the Subcommittee, Mr. Nikhom Kasempura, chaired the meeting, and relevant parties joined and checked the readiness for organizing the event at the Phoenix Room, IMPACT Exhibition Center, Building 11-12, IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi Province.         The 36th National Occupational Safety and Health Fair is scheduled to be held from June 19 to 21, 2024, at the IMPACT Muang Thong Thani Exhibition and Convention Center, Halls 11-12. Labour Minister Concerned About Workplace Injuries Accelerates Safety Campaigns, Prepares to Organize a Big Event Drawing All Parties to Participate 

   The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, was closely following the number of work-related dangers or illnesses. Over the past five years, the number of employees experiencing danger or illness from work decreased from 94,906 in 2019 to 81,509 in 2023, and from 2019 – 2023, Bangkok was the area where employees encountered the most danger. The causes of the more severe accidents are objects or things that cut or pierce. The organs that employees experienced the most significant dangers were fingers or thumbs. The age group of employees who suffered the most hazards was between 25 – 29 years. The type of business with the highest number of hazards was residential building construction.           On May 10, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, spoke about the case of a chemical storage tank explosion and fire in Rayong Province yesterday (May 9, 2024), causing the injuries and death of an employee. He expressed his condolences to the family of the employee who died and sent encouragement to the injured people to recover quickly. He said that the Ministry of Labour is concerned about all workers. He received a report about the case from the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien.           On December 7, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, gave a speech at the ILO’s 17th Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting at the Raffles City Convention Center, Singapore. The Assistant to the Labour Minister, Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong, the Ministry of Labour’s executives, representatives from the government, employers, and employees also joined the occasion.           Mr. Suchart congratulated the ILO and the Government of Singapore on successfully hosting the Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting and agreed with the ILO Director-General’s report that social justice is essential for people-centered rehabilitation, using effective social dialogue.
