On November 4, 2020, at 10.30 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol assigned Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Ms. Pattraporn Samatrat, chaired the National Tripartite Preparation Workshop for the 13th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour (AFML) through video conference, with representatives from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, representatives from Canada’s global events, Director of the International Labour Office in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. The meeting took place at the Sangsingkeaw Meeting Room, 5th Floor, Ministry of Labour. The meeting discussed two sub-topics: 1) Impact of Covid-19 on migrant workers and responses in ASEAN and 2) Inclusive and responsive labour migration policy for future preparedness in ASEAN. On October 13, 2020, at 09.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol assigned Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Ms. Pattraporn Samatrat to attend the 13th SLOM-WG meeting through video conference. The meeting acknowledged the progress of the project implementation under the SLOM-WG plan for 2016-2020. It consists of the Ministry of Labour’s important projects, such as the 8th Academic Conference on Labour Inspection and research studies on the extension of social security to informal workers. The meeting also acknowledged the results of other important meetings on labor-related issues, such as the establishment of the ASEAN restoration guidelines after the Covid-19 pandemic and the preparation of the new SLOM-WG program 2016-2020. Mr. Ananchai Uthaiwattanachep, Director General of the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare revealed that the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare encourages businesses to conduct business ethically, with respect to human rights, non-child labor, no forced labor, and no trafficking. The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General and spokesperson Mr. Ananchai Uthaipatanacheep gave a press conference explaining that Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul had chaired the Anti-Human Trafficking Subcommittee’s meeting for the first time this year. The key agenda considered issues surrounding the extension for foreign worker registrations, whereby Samut Sakhon and Ranong provincial governors presented progress in their respective areas, along with representatives from 11 provinces comprising Pathum Thani, Chon Buri, Samut Prakarn, Surat Thani, Chiang Mai, Nontaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Rayong, Phuket, Songkhla and Tak.
