          On June 20, 2024, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, gave an oath to declare the intention to fight against drugs on the occasion of World Anti-Drug Day ( June 26) 2024. Senior executives, civil servants, and officials from the Office of the Permanent Secretary of Labour joined the occasion in front of the royal portrait, 1st floor, Ministry of Labour.           Mr. Pairoj said that drugs are a problem that many countries agree must be solved globally. Therefore, the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly has set June 26 of every year as World Anti-Drug Day. On June 17, 2024, at 15.00 hours, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, chaired the Ministry of Labour’s preparation for the meeting of the House of Representatives to consider the draft Budget Act for the 2025 fiscal year. Labour Minister’s Secretariat Gives Speech to 298 Thai Workers in Preparation to Work in Japan and Taiwan and Reports Over 64,000 Thai Workers Sent Abroad in 2024 Already

            On June 14, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, assigned the Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Mr. Aree Krainara, to pay a visit to give encouragement and advice to 305 Thai workers who received training before traveling to work in Taiwan and Japan. The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mrs. Marasri Jairangsi, participated in the visit to give encouragement. The Department of Employment’s Deputy Director-General, Mr. Sibmuenchai Phothisin, gave a report. Labour Minister Aiming to Cover 20 Million Independent Workers Under Social Security Section 40 To Take Care of Quality of Life in the Long Term

            The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, reported that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, wants independent workers, which is approximately 20 million people, to have social security and receive the same benefits as workers in the system, especially social security protection under Section 40. If independent workers apply to be insured under Section 40, they will receive protection in up to five cases, including loss of income due to illness, disability, death, old age, and child support. There are options to consider as appropriate for the individuals, whether it is option 1, contributing 70 Baht per month; option 2, contributing 100 Baht per month; and option 3, which receives the highest benefits, contributing 300 Baht per month.             The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson said that this year, the Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office has organized the Social Security for Independent Workers Throughout Thailand Project, with the goal of organizing activities four regional activities and one in Bangkok, to bring knowledge and understanding about the benefits and protection from Social Security Section 40 to those who are self-employed, inviting these groups to apply to become insured under Section 40. MOL Trains Model Teachers in Village Community Networkers to Support the Act Protecting Over 20 Million Independent Workers

          On June 7, 2024, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, assigned the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour, Lieutenant Saroj Komkhai, presided over the opening ceremony of the training for Teacher B (village/community independent labour network) under the project to improve the quality of life of informal workers by the community network through registration of informal workers (independent workers). The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mrs. Marasri Jairangsi, the Department of Employment’s Deputy Director-General, Mr. Sibmuenchai Phothisin, and the Ministry of Labour’s senior executives joined the opening ceremony. Permanent Secretary of Labour Reports Labour Situation for April 2024; Unemployed Registered Persons Decrease, Employment in the Service Improves

     On June 6, 2024, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, spoke about the overall labour situation based on the data of April 2024 by the Labour Economics Division under the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour. Currently, 11,857,864 workers are insured under the social security system. Insured persons under Section 33 increased by 1.70 percent compared to the same month of 2023, when there were 11,659,514 people, but a decrease of 0.21 percent compared to March 2024, when there were 11,882,607 people.      Mr. Pairoj added that in Thailand’s unemployment situation, 228,840 unemployed people were registered in the social security system in April 2024. Compared to 2023, this was an increase of 0.93 percent, and compared to March 2024, an increase of 4.74 percent. The unemployment rate in the social security system in April 2024 was 1.89 percent.
