Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Joins Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Board Meeting

            On September 30, 2022, at 14.00 hours, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour, Ms. Bubpha Rueangsud, joined the meeting of the Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Board No. 4/2022 online. The Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan chaired the meeting. The meeting considered the request for approval for the allocation of the Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Fund for 2023 and the request for approval of the allocation of the Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Fund to carry out project management work to support small SMEs. Labour Minister Shows Concern for Thai Workers Who Died in Portugal and Instructs DOE to Investigate Entitlements and Provide Support

            The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, spoke about the Facebook post by the Royal Thai Embassy in Lisbon, Portugal, which reported news that a Thai worker collecting shellfish in Portugal died in a water accident on September 23. As soon as the news was received, the Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan expressed his concern and gave his condolences to the family of the deceased Thai workers. The Ministry of Labour was assigned to check the status and provide support with the eligible entitlements following the law. The Labour Minister assigned the Department of Employment to check the information and urge recruitment companies to take care of Thai workers’ benefits when working abroad. The Overseas Employment Administration Division’s investigation found that Mrs. Thanaporn Sukprab, 52, was a native of Khon Kaen. She traveled to work as an agricultural worker in Portugal and is a member of the fund to help job seekers working abroad. She traveled via a recruitment company on October 29, 2020. MOL Foreign Worker Management Fund Committee Meets for No. 7/2022

         On September 26, 2022, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong, chaired the Foreign Worker Management Fund Committee Meeting No. 7/2022 via video conference at the Tian Achakul Conference Room, 10th floor, Department of Employment. The Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Pairoj Chotiksetian, and related persons also attended the meeting. MOL Honours Monarchy in Presentation of Documentary Honouring Chakri Dynasty

          On September 23, 2022, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong, the head of the 904 Volunteer Center, Ministry of Labour, presided over the documentary presentation ceremony in honour of the Chakri Dynasty, which the Royal Volunteer School produces. The documentary was presented to provincial labour officers and directors of the office/center/division under the Office of the Permanent Secretary of Labour. The Ministry of Labour’s executives, civil servants, and officers attended the ceremony at the Permanent Secretary of Labour’s Office, 7th floor, Ministry of Labour.           The Royal Volunteer School produced the documentary in honour of the Chakri Dynasty to honour the Chakri Dynasty, on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua’s 70th Birthday, on July 28, 2022.             On September 23, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, presided over the ceremony to give morning offerings to 10 monks, to make merit for former executives, government officials, and officials of the Ministry of Labour who have passed away, and for auspiciousness, on the occasion of the Ministry of Labour’s 29th anniversary. The occasion took place at the Ministry of Labour’s meeting room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour.             The Labour Minister then presided over the ceremony to pay homage to the Ministry of Labour’s sacred objects, consisting of Phra Phut Sutthitham Bophit, Phra Phut Chinnarat, San Por Pu Chai Mongkhon, and San Thao Mahaprom Thewarit. MOL Joins 13th Government Provident Fund Committee Meeting Which Has Been Registered

          On September 20, 2022, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Wannarat Srisuksai, chaired the 13th Government Provident Fund Committee meeting, which was registered (GPF) No. 6/2022. The occasion took place at the GPF Meeting Room, 23rd floor, Building A, The Nine Tower Grand Rama 9, Rama 9 Road, Huai Khwang District, Bangkok.           The meeting considered the investment plan of Kasikorn Asset Management, the investment plan of MFC Asset Management, investment in foreign investment funds of Kasikorn Asset Management, fund transactions with related persons of Kasikorn Asset Management, fund transactions with related persons of MFC Asset Management, and the performances of Kasikorn Asset Management and MFC Asset Management. Labour Minister Reports Results of Policies on Managing Foreign Workers to Support the Country’s Revival After COVID-19

          On September 14, 2022, the Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin presided over the announcement of the operating results and policy direction for managing foreign workers. The Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswon, reported the event’s objectives. The Ministry of Labour’s executives, association representatives, organizations, civil society/employers, and related agencies also participated in the event, which took place at the Ministry of Labour’s meeting room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour.           Mr. Suchart said that during the COVID-19 situation, the Ministry of Labour followed the Cabinet’s resolution on April 7, 2020, to manage the COVID-19 situation as a national agenda while the situation was ongoing and after the situation had subsided. The Foreign Worker Management Policy Committee prepared a proposal to the Cabinet to extend the service period for CI centers in 4 provinces of Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, Ranong, and Chonburi, to February 13, 2023. and approve the amendment of the Ministry of Labour’s announcement on allowing migrant workers with high potential to work in the Kingdom as a special case, following the economic and investment stimulus measures.           On September 2, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, chaired the Foreign Work Management Policy Committee Meeting No. 3/2022. Labour Minister Shows Concern for Gas Filling Plant Employees in Samut Prakarn and Assigns Special Task Force to Support and Investigate

The Labour Minister showed concern about the gas filling plant and the fire in Samut Prakan Province, which caused serious injuries to many employees. He instructed a special team with departments under the Ministry of Labour to inspect the area and help employees access their legal rights immediately.           The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, spoke about the case of a gas-filling plant explosion and a fire that caused serious injuries to many employees at V.I.P Petroleum Company Limited, Bang Sao Thong District, Samut Prakan Province. He said that the Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, has expressed concern about the incident. He instructed the Ministry of Labour to support employees immediately. He assigned a special task force to investigate the facts right away. MOL Joins Foreign Workers Management Fund Committee Meeting No. 6/2022

          On August 29, 2022, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong, chaired the Foreign Workers Management Fund Committee Meeting No. 6/2022. The meeting acknowledged the report on the performance and the result of the fund’s expenditure for the 2022 fiscal year, as of July, and the request for an increase, decrease, or change on the list of expenditures from the Foreign Workers Management Fund in 2022 (not affecting the budget limit). It also considered the establishment of the employment start and end center, the cash flow projection report, and a review of programs to prevent and address forced labour or services that may be caused by migrant labour abuses of the Office of the Permanent Secretary of Labour. Deputy PM Reiterates Government’s Care for Informal Workers and Instructs MOL to Drive Informal Workers Act

          On August 29, 2022, Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan chaired the National Informal Workers Management Committee No. 1/2022. The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, attended the meeting at the Ministry of Labour.           General Prawit said that the government recognizes the importance of informal workers. There are new forms of employment, such as employment through platforms. The existing labour laws still do not cover some parts, resulting in some informal workers not having entitlements to the rights, protection, and welfare they should. Therefore, the Ministry of Labour was assigned to accelerate the draft bill promoting the quality of life and protection of informal workers. The Cabinet approved the draft on December 28, 2021, and it is currently under consideration by the Council of State to come into effect immediately.             On August 3, 2022, at 10.00 hours, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour, Ms. Bubpha Rueangsud, joined the National Family Strategy and Policy Committee Meeting No. 3/2022 via Zoom. The Minister of Social Development and Human Security, Mr. Juti Krairiksh, chaired the meeting. The meeting considered the (draft) Family Action Plan 2023 – 2027 and the policy development proposal from the National Family Assembly for 2021.
