MOL Spokesperson Confirms Payment of Remedies to Workers in Close Construction Camp Sites Following Eligibility

          On July 12, 2021, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, spoke about the case where Mr. Chaiwat Wannakot, Secretariat and subcommittee member on the study of labour welfare, protection, and relations, wrote an article which was a compilation of information on workers’ compensation following the worker’s camp closure order. It stated that the workers’ camps are closed for 14 days, affecting 700,000 people who have not received compensation, and have not been cared for in terms of food. In this regard, she clarified that the Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office had paid compensation from force majeure due to COVID-19, at 50 percent of the wages to employees in 4 types of businesses, namely 1) Construction business. 2) Hotel and food services. 3) Entertainment and recreational arts, and 4) Other businesses that are non-construction businesses. The Social Security Office has paid unemployment benefits in case of force majeure due to COVID-19 to employees under 17,920 businesses, amounting to 87,631,033.80 Baht (as of July 12, 2021). MOL Distributes Goods to Construction Worker Camps of 14 Companies

          Today (July 1, 2021), at 13.00 hours, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Ms. Bubpha Rueangsud, and officials of the Ministry of Labour distributed donated items from Charoen Pokphand Foods, Thai Union Group, Sangthong-Akara affiliated companies, Krungthai Food Products, and TTech Development, consisting of 13,500 cans of canned fish, 29,250 eggs, 44 sacks of rice and 290 packs of drinking water. The goods were donated to the construction worker camps of Saoek Deco Build, Cho Runglert Group, Ruamchai Architect, Jintana Transport, Boontoonkit Construction, Nut and Nat Construction, SSKD Construction, A.S. Two Labour Leaders Reveal Government Remedies for Worker Camp Closure to Help Employees and Employers

          On June 29, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin welcomed Chairman of the Federation of Thailand Automobile Workers Union Mr. Manit Promkarikul and the committee to meet, listen to the vaccine allocation plan and thank the government for vaccinating Section 33 insured persons in factories and industrial estates. MOL Trains Special Task Force Officers to Inspect, Suppress, Arrest and Prosecute Foreigner Working Illegally Amid the Covid-19 Situation

            On June 14, 2021, at 09.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol presided over the commencement of training for special task force officers to inspect, suppress, arrest and prosecute foreigners working illegally amid the Covid-19 pandemic. He said that the Covid-19 outbreaks in Thailand had increased daily, especially the second wave of outbreaks caused by migrant workers in the shrimp market in Samut Sakhon Province. When government officials began to clean up and make an arrest, employers feared guilt, therefore leaving their illegal foreign workers in public places or along the roadside, which contributed to the spread of the virus in different areas. For this reason, the government is concerned that if the suppress and arrest methods are used alone, it may encourage migrant workers to flee or employers to leave their illegal foreign workers in more places. MOL Organizes “Have and Share” Volunteer Activities Distributing Survival Packages to Impacted Community Members in the Din Daeng Housing Community in Honour of HM the Queen’s Birthday

          On June 4, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin presided over the donation ceremony of the “Have and Share” volunteer activities for public benefit on the occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s royal birthday, on June 3, 2021. Donations were made to representatives of the Din Daeng Housing Committee 2. Mr. Wichan Kheawkaew, the Chairman of the Din Daeng Housing Community 2, and the flat committee represented the community members in receiving the donations. The “Have and Share” packages consist of consumer goods and daily necessities such as rice, instant noodles, canned fish, milk, medicines, masks, and other consumer goods. Up to 520 packages were donated to help people suffering from the impacts of Covid-19. The occasion took place at the foyer on the ground floor of the Ministry of Labour. Labour Minister Meets with Foreign Worker Management Policy Committee to Resolve Issues Amid New Wave of Covid-19 Outbreaks

          The Labour Minister is prepared to propose to the Cabinet an adjustment on time to find employers of foreign workers of the three nationalities to 60 days, extending the time of Covid-19 testing and work permit applications (Bor.Tor. 48) for foreigners who fall in the group from the resolution on December 29, 2020.           Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported that the Ministry of Labour responded to orders by the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. It has worked with relevant departments and hospitals in the social security network to carry out proactive Covid-19 tests for employees in the workplace and worker campsites in Pathum Thani and Nonthaburi, controlling the spread of Covid-19.           On May 31, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about the Covid-19 outbreaks in worker camps. Labour Minister Assigns Advisor to Care for Workplace Employees to Prevent Covid-19 Spread in Phetchaburi

          The Labour Miniter assigned his Advisor to lead a team comprising heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Phetchaburi, to distribute food and encourage workplace employees coping with the Covid-19 outbreaks.           On May 29, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned Advisor to the Labour Minister Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan and the head of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Phetchaburi to care for workplace employees coping with Covid-19 outbreaks in Khao Yoi District, Phetchaburi. Labour Minister Responds to Deputy PM Instructions to Investigate Foreign Workers in Samut Sakhon and Control Covid-19 Outbreaks in the Workplace

PM Assigns MOL and BMA to Roll Out Proactive Covid-19 Screening in Construction Worker Camps

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported that the Prime Minister is concerned about Covid-19 outbreaks in worker camps. He has instructed the Ministry of Labour and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to conduct proactive Covid-19 screening for workers in construction camps throughout the city.
