Labour Minister Joins PM Delegation to Phetchabun to Create Social Security and Improve the Quality of Life for Agricultural Workers

          On November 24, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, joined the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, General Prayuth Chan-ocha’s delegation to visit Phetchabun Province on the occasion of presiding over the KICKOFF ceremony for measures to support and raise income for rice farmers in the 2022/23 harvest year. The measures aim to help rice farmers have an income and financial liquidity in spending, including providing opportunities for farmers to sell rice paddy at a higher price or a price suitable to production costs.           On November 30, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, joined the delegation of the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha to visit Chiang Rai Province to follow up on the BCG Model Rice Conservation Project, Phase 1 pilot. MOL Welcomes Chulalongkorn University’s Asian Migration Research Center to Presents Research Findings on the Foreign Workers Management in Thailand

          On November 29, 2022, at 10.00 hours, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong, welcomed the World Bank’s Social Protection & Labor Sector Manager for East Asia and Pacific Region, Mr. Yasser El-Gammal and committee, to discuss and exchange views on the ongoing cooperation between the World Bank and the Ministry of Labour in conjunction with the presentation of the study results on migrant workers in Thailand. The meeting took place at the Treethep 2 Conference Room, 14th floor, Department of Employment.           The discussion topics consisted of presenting the results of an analytical study on “Understanding the Current Status of Migration of Myanmar Workers to Thailand,” a key presence in the ongoing World Development Report 2023, and a discussion and exchange of views on future research projects the research team will undertake on “Understanding the Needs of Thai Employers.”

MOL Joins Meeting to Review and Evaluate Thailand’s National Decent Work Plan 2019 – 2022

             On November 29, 2022, at 13.30 hours, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong, assigned the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mr. Samat Pattamasukon, to chair the opening meeting to Review and Evaluate Thailand’s National Decent Work Plan 2019 – 2022 and the preparation of the new Thailand Decent Work National Plan 2023 – 2026. The meeting took place at the Kamolthip Room, Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok. He said that the Decent Work Country Program (DWCP) is a cooperation framework that the ILO has established with member countries as a reference document for providing assistance and support to member countries. It is formed by establishing strategies, guidelines, and clear goals that correspond to the context and urgent agenda, both economically and socially, to promote decent work for all. Thailand prepared its first DWCP in 2019. Tripartite representatives and the ILO signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the 2019-2021 DWCP on April 11, 2019, celebrating the ILO’s 100th anniversary. Labour Minister Assigns SSO to Accelerate Benefit Payments to the Itaewon Victim, a Former Insured Person under Section 33

            On November 1, 2022, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about the case’s progress, where one Thai person died from the tragedy at the Halloween Night Festival held in Itaewon Street, Seoul, South Korea, on the night of October 29. A large number of people attended the event. The location was crowded, causing people to fall and step on each other, causing many deaths and injuries due to suffocation.             Mr. Suchart said that on the Ministry of Labour’s part, agencies under the Ministry of Labour had been assigned to investigate the details of the deceased. Labour Minister Expresses Condolences For Tragedy in South Korea and Instructs Labour Ambassador to Urgently Investigate if Any Thai Workers Have Died in the Incident

          The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, spoke about the tragedy at the Halloween Night Festival held in Itaewon Street in Seoul, South Korea, on the night of October 29. Many people attended the event, leaving at least 151 people killed and 82 injured from suffocation. As soon as he heard the news, the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha expressed their condolences and urged relevant agencies to expedite investigations.           Mr. Suchart continued that on the Ministry of Labour’s part, he instructed the Labour Ambassador to South Korea to expedite checks if any Thai workers had died in the incident. The report of Minister-Counselor on Labour at the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul, Mr. Nithipat Wattanasuwakul, reported that no Thai workers have died.
