Labour Minister Reveals Five Thai Workers Released from Hostage are Safe and Communicating Normally: Permanent Secretary Assigns to Ensure Entitlements from the Fund and Social Security are Received

On January 30, 2025, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, spoke about the progress of 5 Thai workers released from hostage by Hamas in Israel. He said that he received a report from the Minister Counselor (on Labour) at the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv. At 13.00 hours. Israeli time, the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv released the names of the five Thai workers who were released in Khan Younis, as follows: 1) Mr. Watchara Sri-uan, 32 years old, native of Udon Thani Province; 2) Mr. Phongsak Tanna, 35 years old, native of Buriram Province; 3) Mr. Sathien Suwannakam, 34 years old, native of Nong Bua Lamphu Province; 4) Mr. Surasak Lamnao, 30 years old, native of Udon Thani Province; and 5) Mr. Bannawat Sae Tao, native of Nan Province. All of the workers have undergone initial medical assessments. All are safe, and their mental health is good. Labour Minister Assigns Deputy Permanent Secretary to Follow Up on Death Benefits for Thai Trainee in Japan: Instructs Labour Ambassador to Coordinate with Consulate to Transport Ashes Back to Thailand

On January 30, 2025, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, spoke about the progress in the case of a technical trainee who died in Japan and expressed his deepest condolences to the deceased’s family. Regarding assistance in terms of legal entitlements to be received by the beneficiaries, the Permanent Secretary of Labour was assigned to follow up on the progress of the matter and coordinate to proceed according to the family’s wishes to send the ashes back to Thailand. Mr. Phiphat continued that he received a report from the Minister Counselor (on Labour) from the Labour Office in Japan, which conducted the investigation and found that the deceased Thai worker, Mr. Kanapat Promhung, was a Japanese technical trainee who disappeared. Labour Minister Mourns Thais Who Died in Korean Plane Runway Crash: Permanent Secretary Instructs 5 Labour Leaders to Visit Relatives and Take Care of Social Security Benefits

            Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, expressed his condolences for the incident where Jeju Airlines flight 7C 2216, traveling from Bangkok to Jeollanam-do, Republic of Korea, had an accident while landing. The plane’s wheels did not deploy, causing the plane to skid along the runway and catch fire. The incident occurred yesterday morning at approximately 09.07 hours local time. On the Ministry of Labour’s part, the Labour Minister received a report from Ms. Sirirat Srichat, Assistant Labour Attaché at the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The report said that the airline was carrying 181 passengers, 175 of whom were passengers and 6 crew members. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that there were 179 fatalities, of which 2 were Thai passengers. The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Labor, including Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, Permanent Secretary; Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan, Director-General of the Department of Employment; Mr. Pichet Thongpan, Inspector-General; and Mr. Sakdinat Sonthisakdiyothin, Assistant Permanent Secretary. Minister of labor expresses concerns over flooding, orders survey of affected businesses, sets up 1506 assistance center for victims

Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labor, stated that due to the flooding situation affecting six provinces—Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Phetchabun, and Udon Thani—with 21,258 businesses and 207,299 workers impacted, he is deeply concerned about the situation. He has directed the relevant agencies under the Ministry of Labor in the flood-affected provinces to provide assistance to the public urgently. The Ministry of Labor has instructed the provincial labor welfare and protection offices in the affected areas to meet with business owners to discuss employment details, assess the impact on workers and employers, and provide assistance in cases where workers are losing income or businesses are unable to operate. Labour Minister Creates Teachers A and B to Invite Independent Workers to Register for Benefits, Aiming for 9 Million People in the First Year

          The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, supports the training of Teacher B or independent labour networks at the village/community level nationwide. The project aims to improve the quality of life of informal workers through community networks through the registration of informal workers. The Ministry of Labour has implemented the project from June to August 2024 in all provinces, providing knowledge about the benefits of the people according to the draft Act on the Promotion of Quality of Life and Protection of Informal Labour B.E. .. and the use of the independent worker registration system to Bangkok labour volunteers, village headsmen, assistant village headsmen, subdistrict doctors, and regional village headsmen, totaling 75,249 people. MOL Ranks 2nd in the Country in the ITA 2024 Assessment, Averaging 93.69 Points in Ethics and Transparency Among 21 Ministries

     On August 2, 2024, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, reported that on July 30, 2024, the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) announced the results from the Integrity and Transparency Assessment (ITA) for the 2024 fiscal year 2024 at the ITA DAY & ITA AWARDS 2024 under the concept of Transparency with Quality. This year, the Ministry of Labour had an average score of 93.69 out of 100, ranking second in the country out of a total of 21 ministries. In the evaluation, the score improved from 2023, when it was ranked fifth. In first place was the Ministry of Industry, which received an evaluation result of 93.85 points. Labour Minister Concerned About Workplace Injuries Accelerates Safety Campaigns, Prepares to Organize a Big Event Drawing All Parties to Participate 

   The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, was closely following the number of work-related dangers or illnesses. Over the past five years, the number of employees experiencing danger or illness from work decreased from 94,906 in 2019 to 81,509 in 2023, and from 2019 – 2023, Bangkok was the area where employees encountered the most danger. The causes of the more severe accidents are objects or things that cut or pierce. The organs that employees experienced the most significant dangers were fingers or thumbs. The age group of employees who suffered the most hazards was between 25 – 29 years. The type of business with the highest number of hazards was residential building construction. Labour Minister Travels to Israel to Discuss Care for Thai Workers and Emphasizes Speedy Payments of Aid for Completion within June

            The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, spoke about the progress in supporting Thai workers affected by the unrest in Israel. The Ministry of Labour has paid 50,000 Baht in aid under the relief project to 9,309 eligible people and their families out of the 9,384 applicants, representing 99.34 percent, for a total of 465,450,000 Baht. It has also paid money from the fund to help workers working abroad, from 9,892 people, from 11,101 people who applied, representing 97.93 percent, for a total of 144,270,000 Baht. The remaining documents are being processed and awaiting approval. In addition, those affected will receive financial assistance from the Israel National Insurance Institute. As for the latest figures, 41 Thai workers have died, and there are still six hostages being held.
