Deputy Labour Minister Awards Plaques to Motivate Organizations to Increase Workforce Productivity to Boost the Thai Economy

          On September 17, 2020, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumol Pinyosinwat presided over the presentation of results of the project to increase labour productivity in the SME 4.0 and presented plaques to the 185 organizations for 2020. The event took place at The Emerald Hotel, Ratchadaphisek Road, Din Daeng, Bangkok.

            Prof. Narumon said that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha, has developed a 20-year national development strategy to build competitiveness, along with planning to develop and enhance the country’s workforce to build a strong foundation for the future development of the country towards SME 4.0. This is another project that focuses on developing the workforce’s capacity and organizations to increase labour productivity, which is the human resources development process. The project focuses on developing a systematic thinking method to find causes, limitations, problems, and obstacles in work and apply academic, technological, and innovative knowledge to develop, improve, and solve problems that arise to increase labour productivity to Thailand 4.0 the government’s policy. The project is driven through cooperation mechanisms from all sectors according to the “Pracharat” approach, enabling workforce operators to benefit from improved labour productivity and enhanced skills among the workforce and employees to have higher potential, and increase the competitiveness of the workplace concretely.

          The Deputy Labour Minister said that this project would be a model for implementation, which will affect the country’s overall industry. She congratulated the 185 establishments in the project with assessment results through the specified standard and receiving a plaque today. She said that she sincerely hopes for SMEs, OTOP groups, and community enterprises to apply knowledge according to increasing labour productivity, to be used continuously for benefits in the business. This will help to increase workforce productivity and increase national competitiveness.

          The Department of Skill Development’s Director-General Mr. Tawat Benchatikul, added that Thailand has over 3 million SMEs, covering over 11 million workers, contributing to over 5 trillion Baht’s economic value. The Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development has created a project to increase labour productivity towards SME 4.0 to build capacity and competitiveness among SMEs and drive labour productivity. It also aims to reduce losses in the production or service cycle. The goal in 2020 is to reach 185 organizations and to develop the workforce potential of at least 15,000 people, creating awareness of the value of limited resources. The efforts also aim to help organizations adapt and keep pace with technology and changing innovation and have the skills that are consistent with employment and build the competitiveness of organizations to support the THAILAND 4.0.

          For performance in 2020, the project has achieved a 40.09 percent increase in labour productivity, reducing losses in the production or service cycle by 40.38 percent. It has created economic value totaling over 433 million Baht and has developed skills for employees in the workplace to have a higher labour potential of 15,879 people, creating a labour productivity trainers of the Department of Skill Development with 258 people. The efforts have developed skills to increase knowledge and experience from rigorous training, whereby the project results are summarized today. Executives from the public and private sectors and related organizations attended the event with 660 people.
