Labour Minister Sends Spokesperson to Receive Letter from EV Motorcycle Taxi Group Pressing for Clarity on Progress Towards Including Riders and Motorbike Taxi Drivers in Social Security

          May 21, 2026, at 13:30 hours – Mr. Julapun Amornvivat, Minister of Labour, delegated Mr. Phiphatchai Paiboon, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Labour (Political), to act as his representative in receiving a letter and holding discussions with Mr. Santi Patiphanrat, President of the Association of Electric Vehicle (EV) Motorcycle Taxi Riders, who led a delegation to submit a letter to the Minister of Labour seeking clarity on the policy for bringing motorbike taxi drivers, commonly known as motorcycle taxi or win riders, as well as food and parcel delivery riders, into the social security system. Also in attendance were Mr. Thanin Phumarun, Inspector-General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, Mr. Phunsap Sriphaibun, Inspector-General of the Social Security Office, and officers from relevant agencies. The meeting was held at the Labour Relations Committee Conference Room, 1st Floor, Ministry of Labour Building.

          Mr. Phiphatchai Paiboon, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Labour (Political), said that following the receipt of the letter, the Ministry of Labour, under the leadership of Mr. Julapun Amornvivat, Minister of Labour, is deeply concerned about and attaches great importance to independent workers, both riders and motorbike taxi drivers, who represent a vital cog in driving today’s economy. The views and concerns raised by the association today will be noted and reported to the Minister of Labour. They will be brought before a joint discussion with relevant parties as a matter of urgency.

          “Every policy issued by the Ministry of Labour has as its ultimate goal to improve the quality of life and the protection of the rights and benefits of all workers comprehensively and equitably. Everyone can be assured that the Ministry of Labour, under the leadership of Mr. Julapun Amornvivat, Minister of Labour, is committed to informal workers and wishes for them to enjoy equal protection. As for the precise form and method this will take, a further meeting will be arranged to discuss and communicate the details in due course,” said Mr. Phiphatchai.
