On March 24, 2021, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Advisor to the Deputy Labour Minister M.L. Puntrik Smiti and committee, awarded a certificate to trainees and paid a visit to the training under the logistics personnel development project to support the transportation business and international trade. The occasion took place at the International Freight Forwarders Association, Srinakarin Road, Bangna, Bangkok.
Prof. Narumon said that she was pleased to have awarded certificates for those who have passed the sea and air transport course under the project to develop logistics personnel to support the transportation business and international trade in 2021. The logistics industry is regarded as the cornerstone of the country’s economic development. From the coronavirus outbreak, many industries and businesses were affected. On the other hand, the transportation and logistics business has seen an improved direction, adapting to changing consumer demand, promoting transportation-related business to grow, especially through online ordering. Many consumer products are still required. As a result, transportation and logistics were minimally affected by the pandemic, meaning that the industry’s workforce was minimally impacted. Therefore, the demand for labour remained constant.
The Deputy Labour Minister continued that an efficient logistics system reduces costs and increases competitiveness. Therefore, logistics personnel development is necessary and requires integration between agencies that focus on developing a high potential workforce ready for logistics businesses’ changes. She thanked the President of the Thai International Freight Forwarders Association (TIFFA) for cooperating with the Department of Skill Development to develop logistics personnel to have higher competencies. This will benefit the overall industry of the country. She also thanked government agencies, the private sector, and those who took part in the training, hoping that this project will help build and develop a quality workforce in the logistics, transportation, and international trade industries. The trainees are encouraged to bring their knowledge and experience to adapt to work, which is an important force in further enhancing the country’s competitiveness.
The Deputy Labour Minister awarded diplomas to 50 trainees in the sea and air transport who participated in this course. Participants were personnel in the logistics business with at least two years of work experience. The training spanned 60 hours to upgrade skills to high potential. She observed training courses on transportation and international trade. The participants were 50 students at the undergraduate level who were selected to train for 240 hours. Organizations that are members of the association will get to work immediately upon graduation, with wages starting from 15,000 Baht per month.
Deputy Director-General of the Department of Skill Development Ms. Jiraporn Poonyarit added that The Department of Skill Development has cooperated with TIFFA to develop skills related to logistics systems since 2005. It has produced nearly 2,000 workers, developing logistics personnel to define and draft national labour skill standards branches related to logistics. It has also organized training and labour skill standard assessments, including exchanging knowledge with speakers and modern technology.
