Deputy Labour Minister Visits Phuket to Drive Skills Development to Support Economy in Travel Through Covid-19

          The Deputy Labour Minister visited Phuket to develop workers in the service and tourism sectors, to create a career and generate a stable income, promoting recovery from the economic crisis after Covid-19.
          On November 2, 2020, Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan presided over the Ministry of Labour Meets the People @Phuket event and observed public service activities. Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat, along with the Ministry of Labour’s executives and heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Phuket, observed the various activities at the gymnasium building, Phuket Municipality, Mueang Phuket, Phuket, on this occasion too.
          General Prawit said that the government had prioritized driving the country’s economy to help revitalize the tourism and service sector to recover quickly from the impact of Covid-19. The Ministry of Labour has organized the Ministry of Labour Meets the People @Phuket event today to promote employment and provide people in the area with a career and income to stimulate the economy. This is especially for businesses in the private sector, providing support to return to normal operations. The Ministry of Labour has also initiated activities in the development and strengthening of human resources by developing workers in line with the needs of the tourism and service sectors, supporting people of all working ages to be able to work in their homeland, have work skills, a career, and stable income. This will affect the income of the community, which will lead to a better quality of life.
          Prof. Narumon added that in building that capacity of workers, the Department of Skill Development (DSD) has a skill development plan for 2021 to promote tourism through projects such as the tourism and service sector labour development projects in mixing beverages, English for massage therapists, food and beverage service staff, and porters, for example. There are also projects to enhance technological skills to support work in the 21st century, such as creating and selling from online stores. In the Ministry of Labour Meets the People @Phuket event today, the Phuket Institute of Skill Development 21 demonstrated some training courses such as bakeries, food, and beverages, mixing drinks, and hairdressers. In addition, there were labour skill standards assessment activities to support the payment of wages according to the skill standard in household and small commercial air conditioning technicians, assessment, and support of knowledge and abilities for indoor electricians and air conditioner technicians at home and small commercial. There were also public relations on the mission of the Phuket Institute for Skill Development 21.
