“Gen. Adul” Aims for International Skills Development Institute in Nakhon Phanom to Promote Human Capital in GMS

           The Labour Minister commenced the seminar on human capital development in border areas and special economic development zones in the Greater Mekong Subregion member states, which exchanged experiences between Thai and Laos personnel in the development of human capital to meet the needs of the Greater Mekong Subregion. The effort aims to prepare for the establishment of the Nakhon Phanom International Skill Development Institute to supports human resource development and promote trade and investment within border regions and special economic development zones within Mekong countries.

 

 

         On April 20, 2019, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo presided over the closing ceremony of the second workshop on “human capital development in border areas and special economic development zones in the GMS (Greater Mekong Subregion) member countries” which took place at the Fortune River View Hotel, Nakhon Phanom Province. The Labour Minister said that the Thai government has policies to strengthen relations with various countries on the principle that overall economic growth in the subregion will impact growth and enhance the internal economy of each country.
         Pol.Gen. Adul said that the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development has the policy to establish the International Skill Development Institute in Nakhon Phanom, which aims to develop human capital in the subregion to have the ability, skills and potential that is in line with the needs of the labour market in the Greater Mekong Subregion. The development would boost value in trade and investment to support the expansion of economic cooperation among countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion in various cooperation frameworks, including supporting the development under the context of sustainable development goals.
         This workshop was held to allow participants from Laos and personnel of the Department of Skill Development to have the opportunity to express academic opinions and exchange knowledge and experience in developing skills within the Greater Mekong Subregion member countries, including border areas and special economic development zones. The development will benefit the labour development process in the future, for workers to have the competencies and skills following international standards, leading to substantial and sustainable economic growth in the region.
