Content Description

On January 6, 2022, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about the COVID-19 situation and the outbreak of the Omicron variant. According to the Ministry of Public Health, he said that many clusters were detected after the New Year’s holiday. Because there were celebrations in many different areas, especially in the provinces with many tourists, there were clusters in entertainment venues scattered throughout the country. Although the Ministry of Public Health’s report found that infected patients generally had mild symptoms, the Ministry of Labour is taking a proactive approach. The Labour Minister has instructed the Social Security Office to meet with medical personnel in over 50 social security network hospitals to prepare the Hospitels.

Mr. Suchart continued that the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, is concerned for the people amid the COVID-19 pandemic and new Omicron strains. Therefore, the preparation of Hospitels has been established. Furthermore, more awareness is being raised on self-prevention measures following the Ministry of Public Health’s measures. A notice has been sent to construction worker camps to strictly observe such measures.

In addition, the government and related agencies have carried over 100 million doses of vaccinations for people across the country, including Thai and foreign workers. The efforts have boosted immunity. There have also been screening tests to separate the infected people for treatment according to the measures set by the Ministry of Public Health. On January 17, the Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office will launch third vaccination doses for Section 33 insured persons.
“In the past, we took care of Thai workers and foreign workers equally. I would like to thank the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Interior for their continuous cooperation to drive the prevention and the control of the spread of COVID-19 to allow the situation to return to normal as soon as possible, following the Prime Minister’s policy,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
