Labour Minister Assigns Advisor to Offer Over 370,000 Baht in Compensation to the Families of Migrant Workers who Died in the Train-Bus Crash Ensuring Equal Treatment

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned his Advisor to offer compensation benefits to the relatives of six foreign workers who died from a train-bus crash while going to a Kathin event in Chachoengsao. The compensation was worth 370,888 Baht, and the occasion took place at Wat Dan Samrong, Samut Prakan. She emphasized that the Social Security Office would ensure migrant workers’ rights equal to that of Thai workers.
          On October 16, 2020, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned Advisor to the Labour Minister Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan to offer compensation benefits to the relatives of those who died from a freight train crash with a bus while going to a Kathin event in Chachoengsao. There were six foreign workers. The compensation comprised 50,000 Baht for funeral fees, totaling 300,000 Baht and 70,888 baht of old age gratuity, totaling 370,888 Baht. The occasion took place at Wat Dan Samrong, Sukhumvit Road, Muang, Samut Prakan. Advisory Board Member to the Labour Minister Mrs. Thienrat Nawamawat, the Social Security Office’s Inspector-General Mr. Ananthachai Panyasurarit, Myanmar Labour Ambassador to Thailand Mr. U Myo Myint Naing, Coordinating Officer of the Myanmar Embassy in Thailand Mr. Vitoon Vejsarn and Executive of Perfect Interproducts Mr. Kovit Mahakarat also participated in the occasion.
          Mrs. Thiwalrat said that Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha expresses his condolences to the deceased’s families and is concerned for those who were injured. The accident resulted in the deaths of 19 people and many injuries. In the part of the Ministry of Labour, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin has instructed the relevant agencies to immediately care for and provide assistance to the victims. She said that on October 12, the Labour Minister assigned her and the committee to visit Chachoengsao, to give words of encouragement and deliver essential daily necessities to the nine injured people who were getting treatment at Phutthasothon Hospital, Muang Chachoengsao, Chachoengsao. They also offered compensation for funeral fees and benefits in the event of death from work to the relatives of Mr. Boonsong Suanyim, the bus driver who died, totaling 1,357,467.40 Baht. Today, the Labour Minister assigned her and the committee to the Wat Dan Samrong area in Samut Prakan province to offer compensation benefits to the relatives of the people who died from the freight train crashing into a bus while going to a Kathin event in Chachoengsao. There were six migrant workers. The compensation included a funeral fee of 50,000 Baht per person, totaling 300,000 Baht, and 70,888 Baht for old age gratuity, totaling 370,888 Baht. For the migrant workers, the government and the Ministry of Labour will ensure that they are taken care of with equal treatment. She emphasized that all workers are major cogs in driving the country’s economy. If the workers have come to work in Thailand legally, they will be taken care of and protected according to human rights principles, in which the Social Security Office will provide the same protection as Thai workers.
