On March 24, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned Advisor to the Labour Minister Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, presided over the project’s opening ceremony to enhance the prevention of forced labour, services, and human trafficking in Samut Songkhram Province for 2021. The occasion took place at the Tree Tara Riverside Resort Hotel, Samut Songkhram. Ms. Thiwalrat said that the government is committed to driving operations towards Tier 1. Today, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned her to visit Samut Songkhram to launch the project to increase the effectiveness of the prevention of forced labour, services, and human trafficking for the 2021 fiscal year.
Mrs. Thiwalrat said that human trafficking is a problem that has a negative impact on Thailand, especially the economic impact that will lead to trade protectionism. Thailand has been rated as a Tier 2 of the trafficking situation for two years in a row. It reaffirms confidence in the direction of the Thai government’s efforts to resolve the issue and prevent people from becoming victims of human trafficking. In addition, the Ministry of Labour has enacted amendments to the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act B.E. 2551 and B.E. 2552 to support the implementation of the Protocol under the 29th International Labour Organization Convention on forced labour. Therefore, Thailand and Thai people should be aware and take part in solving such problems. The Samut Songkhram Provincial Labour Office organized training programs to improve the effectiveness of the prevention of forced labour, services, and human trafficking in Samut Songkhram for 2021 today to create awareness and mechanisms to drive the prevention of forced labour, services, and human trafficking.
