Labour Minister Assigns Advisor to Visit Kanchanaburi to Promote Self-Employment for Stable Income

           Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned the Ministry of Labour’s Secretary-General to visit Kanchanaburi, to give words of encouragement to informal workers and listen to information on labour policy driving. He also met with heads of government agencies and discussed self-employment promotion among elderly groups to have a stable income and support themselves and their families.
           On October 15, 2020, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned Advisor to the Labour Minister Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan to preside over the visit to encourage informal workers at Ban Nong Sai Sufficiency Economy Learning Center, Nong Sarai, Phanom Thuan, Kanchanaburi. Advisory Board Member to the Labour Minister Mrs. Thienrat Nawamawat also joined the visit. On this occasion, the visiting party visited and gave words of encouragement to professional groups who joined the booths, including a homeworker group in plastic weaving and six elderly worker groups in Kanchanaburi, namely, baked banana snacks, Thong Muan dessert, Nang let dessert, chili paste, hand-woven cloths, bagged rice, doormats, and gravel and grass groups for example.
           In the afternoon, the Labour Minister’s Advisor chaired the meeting to present the Ministry of Labour’s policies and operational guidelines to government agencies’ heads under the Ministry of Labour. She also inspected the One-Stop Service (OSS) operations, which is open for employers to take foreign workers to complete the work permit application by October 31, and visited the shops of homeworker groups. There was an area open for home workers to display and sell products and elderly workers in the province. The occasion took place at the Kanchanaburi Employment Office, Mae Klong River Road, Pak Praek, Muang, Kanchanaburi. The Labour Minister’s Advisor said that the Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha gives importance to career promotion for the people in the provinces, to gain employment and have a stable income, distributing income to communities. She said that today, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned her and the committee to visit Kanchanaburi, attend the meeting to hand over the Ministry of Labour’s policies and operational guidelines, and listen to the problems and suggestions from all sectors in the area. She also paid visiting to meet the people, build morale, and promote professional development among home workers and the elderly in the area.
           On this occasion, the Labour Minister’s Advisor charged the heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour to take care of promoting the quality of life of independent workers following the agency’s’ mission. This includes applying as an insured person under Section 40 of the social security system, applying to be a member of the Home Workers’ Fund, campaigning to promote occupational health and safety, promotion of skill development and professional training following the demand, to create sustainability for professional groups and to improve the quality of life of independent workers.
           Then, Labour Minister’s Advisor and the committee also visited the registration for influenza vaccination and gave out three certificates to acknowledge the “Bowon” (home, temple, school) network and distribute items for daily living to one person with disabilities. The visit took place at the Kanchanaburi Social Security Office, Mae Klong River Road, Pak Phraek, Mueang, Kanchanaburi.
           For Kanchanaburi, in the second quarter of 2020, there were 796,705 people, 648,172 people of the working-age, and 464,099 people in the workforce. From this, 446,959 people were employed, comprising189,206 people in the agricultural sector and 257,726 people outside the agricultural sector, with 13,763 unemployed people and 290,962 informal workers. There were 3,276 companies with 69,924 employees. A total of 3,118 companies contribute to the social security fund, with 128,721 employees. A total of 12,259 people has applied for unemployment benefits from the force majeure due to Covid-19, totaling 113,204,326 Baht. There are also 26,404 migrant workers and 5,795 people from minority groups.
