Labour Minister Assigns Assistant to Commence SSO Executive Seminar to Deliver the 2023 Policy on Transforming the Labour Market, Building Confidence Among Business Operators and Raising the Quality of Life for Workers

            On December 26, 2022, at 10.30 hours, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned the Assistant to the Labour Minister, Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong, to preside over the opening ceremony of the Social Security Office Executive Seminar, No. 3/2022. The Social Security Office’s Secretary-General, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives, civil servants, and officials from the Social Security Office gave a welcome at the Grand Ballroom, 3rd floor, The Emerald Hotel, Ratchadaphisek Road, Bangkok.

            Mr. Surachai said that today, he was assigned by the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, to preside over the opening ceremony of the Social Security Office Executive Seminar. The purpose of this seminar is to let participants know the policies and directions of the Social Security Office in driving the organization to achieve its goals according to the strategic plans and policies set by the government, which will result in the Social Security Office gaining faith and trust from employers, employees, insured persons, and the general public, to strengthen social security work to become accepted by employees, insured persons, and society as a whole. He wished to share the policy to upgrade and develop the quality of life of members of the social security family by using the Ministry of Labour’s policy for the 2023 fiscal year, “MOL Transforming the Thai Labour Market,” on issues related to the Social Security Office, that is, transforming the labour market and workplaces. 1. Raising the insured persons’ quality of life to be better than ever, such as by establishing a medical institution for the insured persons, increasing the right to access specific medical treatment for the insured persons, and providing housing loans for insured persons. The Social Security Office has cooperated with the Government Housing Bank to give loans to insured persons at a fixed interest rate of 5 years at 1.99% per year. The signing ceremony was held on December 13, 2022. 2. Accelerate the care of informal workers, elderly workers, and disabled workers to improve the quality of life and help build the country’s economy. 3. Accelerate the resolution of foreign labour problems and prevent human trafficking in Labour, to strive to become Tier 1 by increasing the efficiency of labour law enforcement and implementing comprehensive inspections of Thai workers and foreign workers, as well as risk establishments groups. 4. Integrate cooperation from all sectors in providing labour services. Develop and improve the wage and income system, welfare, benefits, and safety at work; and 5. Proactive communication on Labour for workers to recognize the Ministry of Labour’s services and labor rights. Publicize information thoroughly useful to the labour sector through digital systems, such as labour and social security laws.

            Mr. Surachai continued that in 2023, the Ministry of Labour will transform the Ministry of Labour’s role by accelerating the development of a large database system and using technology to improve management to support the digital government. It aims to develop, improve, and amend labour laws to be in line with the social economy, such as improving the social security law covering three requests for old age refunds and developing the Ministry of Labour’s personnel for high performance and good governance, promoting personnel development to have the expertise, and comprehensive knowledge. It will strive to develop the labour sector in all dimensions, aiming to build the Ministry of Labour into a learning organization drive, adopting lifelong learning by developing various labour data sets and spreading awareness through continuous press conferences released to the public. It aims to build confidence in all involved sectors.
“All of the Social Security Office’s executives play an important role in driving the operations following the mission of the Social Security Office and achievements following the Labour Minister’s policies. I commend all staff for their hard work, dedication, and sacrifice during the past two years during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Social Security Office has always played an important role in helping employers and insured persons in the Social Security system by reducing the contribution rates, allowing payments of contributions via electronic channels, improving unemployment benefits, as well as benefits and medical services in case of illness with COVID-19,” concluded Mr. Surachai.
