Labour Minister Assigns DOE Director-General to Join Deputy PM’s Delegation in Visit to Yala to Commence the Workers Expo in the Southern Provinces to Expand the Skilled Labour Market to the Muslim World

          On October 22, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned the Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasatien, the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General, Mr. Prateep Songlamyong, and the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mr. Samat Pattamasukon, joined the Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan’s delegation on a visit to Yala Province, on the occasion of chairing the inauguration of the “Southern Border Provinces Thai Workers to the Skilled Labour Market of the Muslim World Expo.” The occasion took place at the main conference room, 2nd floor, Southern Border Provinces Government Center. The event was hosted to solve the problems of labour and unemployment in the five southern border provinces through the working dimensions of the SBPAC and the Ministry of Labour. This is an integrated effort with the heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in the five southern border provinces. Labour graduates, labour volunteer leaders, and the Yala Provincial Labour Volunteer Network gave a welcome.
          Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan visited the exhibition to help Thai workers during the COVID-19 situation and preparations to arrange for Thai workers from the southern border provinces to work in Saudi Arabia Along. He also watched a video presentation of work on solving labour issues and unemployment in the southern border provinces. The SBPAC’s Secretariat, Police Lieutenant General Somkiat Pholprayoon, and the Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasatien, presented information on resolutions to labour issues and unemployment in the five southern border provinces that have been implemented. The Deputy Prime Minister then met with workers who wished to work in Saudi Arabia for encouragement and observed the booth sharing awareness on working in Saudi Arabia by the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Employment.
          The Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Pairoj Chotiksetian, said that today, the Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned him, the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General, and the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, to visit Yala Province to join the Deputy Prime Minister’s delegation. The Deputy Prime Minister presided over the inauguration of the “Southern Border Provinces Thai Workers to the Skilled Labour Market of the Muslim World Expo.” The Ministry of Labour’s Department of Employment organized activities consisting of an exhibition on labour issues and unemployment in the southern border provinces, information about job vacancies in the southern border provinces, and information on solving labour issues and unemployment problems in the southern border provinces. It organized public relations activities and consulting booths for Thai workers who wished to work in Muslim countries, which contained information about working in Saudi Arabia, such as job types or job openings and wages, applicants’ qualifications, documents to be submitted, and the application process. It also organized a booth to register Thai workers who wish to work in Muslim countries, accept online registrations, and have staff at the registration booth for Thai workers who wish to work abroad. The Narathiwat Provincial Employment Office also brought a mobile vehicle to register Thai job seekers.
Mr. Pairoj continued that in driving the opening of the Muslim world labour skills market in Yala Province, there were labour graduates in Yala Province, provincial labour volunteer leaders, and the labour volunteer network, totaling 170 people who participated in this event. They visited the exhibition on solving labour issues and unemployment in the area, listened to public relations efforts, and advised Thai workers who wished to work in the Muslim world. They watched the demonstration on registering Thai workers who wish to work in Muslim countries. They received information on the results of solving labour issues and unemployment in the southern border province area to expand awareness at the local level. The target group for the “Southern Border Provinces Thai Workers to the Skilled Labour Market of the Muslim World Expo” included people in the southern border provinces such as Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Satun, and Songkhla as follows: 1) 315 people registering through the Overseas Employment E-Service 2) 200 graduates of vocational training from the Institute of Skill Development in fields that are in demand in Saudi Arabia. 3) 200 vocational training graduates from the Royal Vocational Training Centers in the southern border provinces interested in working in Saudi Arabia, namely Narathiwat, Pattani, and Yala. 4) Students who graduated from the Arabic Language/Islamic Science program from an educational institution in Thailand were assigned an educational institution in the area interested in working in Saudi Arabia. 5) Students who have graduated from Saudi Arabia and in the Middle East, whereby the Thai-Saudi Alumni Association has coordinated with alumni who are interested in working in Saudi Arabia to attend the event, including Thai people in Saudi Arabia who returned to Thailand during COVID-19 who wish to return to work in Saudi Arabia. 7) Thai workers who have returned from Malaysia due to the COVID-19 situation; and 8) The general public interested in working in Saudi Arabia.
          The visit by Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan was to inspect and monitor the driving force of development and security in the southern border provinces, as well as listen to presentations on progress on development and security. All government agencies have received the policies and operating guidelines for aligned direction in the 2023 fiscal year. The visit also built morale among workers in the southern border provinces.
