Labour Minister Assigns PM Secretariat to Lead Team in Songkhla to Inspect Fishing Vessels and Elevate Human Trafficking Measures to Tier 1

         Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned Police Major General Nantachat Supamongkol from the Office of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat performing duties for the Ministry of Labour, and the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Mr. Pairoj Chotiksetian visited Songkhla province to listen to reports on the performance of the Fisheries Checkpoint Center in District 8, Songkhla, to listen to the obstacles faced in the sea fishing career in the area. The efforts also aim to drive the policy to raise prevention and tackle human trafficking to Tier 1, in line with international standards and international organizations.

         On March 5, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned Police Major General Nantachat Supamongkol from the Office of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat performing duties for the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Mr. Pairoj Chotiksetian to visit and listen to reports on the performance of the Fisheries Checkpoint Center in District 8, Songkhla, at the Port of the Department of Fisheries, Wichian Chom Road, Bo Yang, Mueang Songkhla, Songkhla. Police Major General Nantachat said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and the Ministry of Labour under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, is focused on driving the IUU Fishing Prevention and Elimination Policy and raising the level of human trafficking prevention and mitigation to Tier 1 to meet international standards and international organizations.

         Police Major General Nantachat said that today, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned him and his group to visit Songkhla to visit and listen to reports on the performance of the Fisheries Checkpoint Center in District 8, Songkhla, to listen to problems and obstacles among workers in sea fishing industry in the area. They also met with employees, employers, and other stakeholders to drive government policies to prevent and tackle human trafficking to Tier 1 by inspecting fishing vessels, including the vessel called Lap Prasit 9, with six employees, comprising 1 Thai worker and 5 Burmese workers. On this occasion, he commended people and gave words of encouragement to people inspecting vessels for dedicating themselves to their work.
