Content Description

Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin commenced the workshop to integrate the Ministry of Labour’s missions to people in the area and community, providing operational guidelines for 2021 to senior management, Division Directors, Provincial Labour Officers, and directors of working groups under the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour.
On November 30, 2020, at 10.00 hours, the Labour Minister chaired the workshop’s commencement on integrating the Ministry of Labour’s missions to the people in the area and communities. Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, Mr. Suthi Sukosol, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives also joined the occasion at the Ramada by Wyndham Bangkok Chaopraya Park, Bangkok.
The Labour Minister thanked all government officials and staff under the Ministry of Labour for driving its policies and missions. For the three months in his position, the Labour Minister has driven his policies in many areas, in line with the 20-year National Strategy and government policies. His efforts have been through collaborations with companies and employees to promote guidelines to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and resolve the unemployment problem. Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan attach great importance to. A job expo was held and collected over one million job vacancies in the first month; the event was well received. Programs also include the co-payment graduate student hiring program. The state supports half the wages for hiring new graduates, offering more job opportunities in the face of the economic challenges during Covid-19. Efforts also include promoting work abroad, as many countries have a high demand for Thai workers. For example, Israel urged Thailand to deliver over 2,000 workers. Initiatives also aim to improve labour skills and adapt skills to the workforce in response to the target industries and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), and measures to help employees, insured persons, and employers reduce contributions to 2% on both sides. Section 39 of the social security coverage caters to independent workers. There are low-interest loan programs to maintain employment among companies, taking care of insured persons’ benefits throughout, especially with recent influenza vaccines and considerations of lending loans to insured persons, for example.
Mr. Suchart said the focus is on several important points. He requested to expedite solutions to resolve occupational issues and collaborate in driving the co-payment project to build capacity and operations of labour network, labour volunteers, and labour graduates, which would further establish an action plan to prevent and resolve human trafficking in every province. He also spoke about inspections and integrations with relevant network partners to develop big data systems, promote and improve informal workers’ quality of life, which is considered the largest labour group in the country. Furthermore, from the economic situation trend and the changing labour market, people are more interested in self-employment. The shift has caused the Ministry of Labour to focus on this group of workers even more; therefore, he requested to expedite the issuance of relevant laws to protect and take care of this group’s welfare.
