The Labour Minister launched the Career Fair Day for 2020, creating opportunities for students to learn about new careers, sparking ideas, and adjusting study options to match the needs of the labour market.
On January 30, 2020, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul presided over the opening ceremony of the “Career Fair Day 2020 “at the Bodindecha (Sing Singhaseni) School, Khlong Kum, Bueng Kum, Bangkok. The Department of Employment’s Director-General Mr. Suchart Pornchaiwisetkun gave a report, whereby the Ministry of Labour’s executives also joined the event. The Labour Minister said that “Career Fair Day” held today aims to develop people in every dimension and every age, following the national strategy on human resource development and promotion. It seeks to lay the foundation for the country’s economic and social development, to reach stability, prosperity, and sustainability, and raise people’s incomes to solve poverty and reduce social inequality. The initiatives aim to be in line with the changing environment in the different dimensions, including the population structure, which has seen a decreasing proportion of the working population, coupled with the aging population. In addition to this are the advancements in science and technology and other new challenges that come from complex structural changes combined.
M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul went on to say that this event creates excellent opportunities for the people and students to get to know a variety of careers. It allows participants to be aware of the environment and labour market conditions, gain career guidelines and spark career ideas so that they can choose a course in further education that is suitable for their knowledge and matches the needs of the labour market so that they have the necessary skills. The event will also allow participants to adapt to various changes in today’s world, including the potential to develop the country’s economy further.
The purpose of this event is to allow the public and students to broaden their worldview, to spark career ideas, to know their work style and different occupations, including receiving news and information about the labour market, education, and occupation so that they can make decisions for further education. It will also allow students to engage in a new or emerging career, following the current technological developments. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice independently, to further develop their career. The event publicizes products to those who have been supported by the Department of Employment, providing opportunities for product manufacturers to meet employers, to increase the employment of production and trading of products. There was a world career exhibition, a world of education, product displays and sales, community products from home workers, career demonstrations, and showcases of technology and innovation. Registration services for working in foreign countries were available, with a dialogue about various occupations. Over 2,000 students attended the event.
