The Labour Minister commenced the forum on the “Development and Empowerment of Workers in the Workplace”, organized by the Confederation of Thai Labour. The seminar emphasized that all sectors must jointly drive the enhancement of worker health and encourage workers to have good sanitation.
On February 9, 2020, at 09.15 hours, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul presided over the opening of a policy forum on the “Development and Empowerment of Workers in the Workplace” organized by the Confederation of Thai Labour, under the support of the Thai Health Promotion Foundation. Secretariat to the Labour Minister Lt. Gen. Nanthadet Meksawat, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, the Ministry of Labour’s executives, Chairman of the Confederation of Thai Labour Mr. Manat Kosol, Chairman of the Social Security Network, Workers Association Leaders, Labour Direction Committee, MPs, company representatives and members of labour organizations totaling over 300 people, joined the event. The occasion took place at the Jompol P. Pibulsongkram Conference Room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour.
M.R. Chatumongol said that the policy forum was organized to develop cooperation mechanisms of government agencies, employers or business owners and labour organizations in the workplace, and academics. It aims at the development of guidelines for implementing policies, enhancing the capacity of labour leaders and networks to have the knowledge and understanding about access to rights and services for occupational and non-occupational disease screening and to improve the relevant regulations or guidelines by enhancing the working conditions of workers. He said that it is a very important issue, because workers’ good health inevitably affects work potential, resulting in readiness to work more efficiently. It is an important force in creating productivity and increasing economic value for the country. Thus, preventive actions and promoting workers’ health is more worthy than treatment or restoring health.
“In order to effectively enhance the working conditions of workers, there must be cooperation from all sectors including the government, employers, employees, or related network partners. It is highly appreciated that the development and enhancement of working conditions in this workplace is considered another step of co-creation and co-existence, to maintain good health in the work system. This is due to the integration of driving health-promoting activities for workers with all sectors working together,” concluded the Labour Minister.
The activities in the event consisted of awarded plaques of honour and certificates of honour to 22 establishments by Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, and a forum on the “Development and Empowerment of Workers in the Workplace” from representatives of government agencies, the private sector, employers and employees.
