Labour Minister Concerns for Over 1,300 Employees Laid Off by Women Undergarment Manufacture and Instructs Five Labour Leaders to Follow Up and Support Urgently

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin expressed concern for employees of Brilliant Alliance Thai Global Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of women undergarments in Samut Prakan. A total of 1,388 people were issued a notice by the employer to terminate their employment due to business closure, effective on March 11, 2021. The Labour Minister urged a follow-up on the cause of the announcement to close the business and lay off employees and to urgently assist and provide remedial rights under the law.
          On March 11, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about the case where Brilliant Alliance Thai Global Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of women undergarments in Samut Prakan, gave notice to employees to terminate their employment due to business closure. He said that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha and the Ministry of Labour under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, is greatly concerned for the workforce. Therefore, the Ministry of Labour was instructed to proactively follow up on the cause of the announcement to close the business and lay off employees and to urgently assist and provide remedial rights under the law.
          Mr. Suchart said that the Samut Prakan Labour Protection and Welfare Office report shows that the company is located at No. 393 Moo 17, Bang Phli Industrial Estate, Bang Sao Thong, Bang Sao Thong, Samut Prakan. The company manufactures women undergarments and has a total of 1,388 employees. On March 10, 2021, Samut Prakan Provincial Labour Protection and Welfare Officer Mr. Pongthep Petchsom received phone calls from the company’s employees, reporting that the company had issued a notice to terminate their employment due to business closure. The termination of employment was effective March 11, 2021. For initial assistance, today (March 11, 2021) agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Samut Prakan, including the Provincial Labour Protection and Welfare Office, the Provincial Labour Office, the Provincial Employment Office, the Provincial Social Security Office, and the Samut Prakan Director of Skill Development Institute 1, together with relevant staff, have explained the process and accepted the request by the employee. The agencies explained the process of supporting with benefits from being dismissed, applying for unemployment benefits from the Social Security Fund and the Employee Welfare Fund, career training for skill development, and recruitment services. A nearby company has already directly accepted applications at Samut Prakan Skill Development Institute 1.
