Labour Minister Confirms Equal Rights for Cambodian and Thai Workers

            The Labour Minister, Permanent Secretary of Labour and committee, had bilateral discussions with the Cambodian Minister of Labour and Vocational Training. The meeting confirmed the Thai government’s protection for the rights of Cambodian workers in Thailand, and that Thailand is ready to facilitate the extension of work permits without workers having to return to Cambodia.

Chatumongol SonakulAssistant to the Labour Minister Mr. Duangrit Benjathukul ChairungruengThai Ambassador to Cambodia Mr. Panyarak Poolsub, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suradej Waleeittikul, Deputy Secretary from the Social Security Office Ms. Amphan Tuwwit and relevant officials participated in bilateral discussions with HE Ith Samheng, Cambodian Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, together with the delegation. The meeting took place at Apsara Palace Resort and Convention Center in Siem Reap, Cambodia. H.E. Ith Samheng, the Cambodian Minister of Labour and Vocational Training congratulated the Labour Minister on his new appointments and thanked Thailand for initiating the framework of labour cooperation in the CLMTV countries.
             The Labour Minister confirmed that Thailand protects the rights of Cambodian workers in Thailand to ensure a good quality of life. He requested that the Cambodian authorities promote Cambodian workers to work in Thailand properly, to ensure that workers will receive protection and legal benefits, and not be at risk of becoming a victim of trafficking and forced labour. For Cambodian workers who are granted a waiver with their work permit expiring, the Thai government will facilitate the extension of work permits in Thailand, whereby workers will not need to return to Cambodia. Thus, the process will be more convenient, fast and less costly.
