On March 2, 2019, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo presided over the ceremony in honour of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej “Father of Thai Craftsmanship” on the National Day of Skilled Workers, which falls on March 2 every year. The ceremony took place at the Jompol P. Pibulsongkhram Meeting Room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour. The Labour Minister said that on February 17, 2009, the Cabinet approved the proposal for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej as the “Father of Thai Craftsmanship”, along with March 2 of each year as the National Day of Skilled Workers, to honour His Majesty’s grace to the Thai people, craftsmanship abilities and importance he gave to the development of Thai workers’ skills.
Pol.Gen. Adul said that His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej once gave a speech as he chaired the opening ceremony of an event on career guidance and craftsmanship competition by an association in Bangkok at Lumphini Park on March 2, 1970. The speech showed His Majesty’s vision of the importance of Thai craftsmen, where he said “… all types of craftsman are an important mechanism to the country of all people because throughout our lives, we rely on and use products derived from the craftsmanship of every day; craftsmen therefore deserve the attention and support from everyone. For all scientific progress, the more necessary it is to promote, especially to get highly skilled craftsman for a good quality of life and enough income to cover needs. In promotion, these three problems should be considered for support: 1) Provision of science and design knowledge 2) Craftsmanship which will need improvement to be more elaborate and effective 3) Employment and markets for artisans to help them have jobs and a market to send products to sell. The support in these three issues must be consistent so that artisans have an income and profits used as a reserve and to create progress. I want to leave my thoughts as a way for you to continue your practice.” From there, the Labour Minister then viewed an exhibition in honour of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
With this opportunity, representatives from the ministry and departments, state and private organizations, employers and employees laid royal offerings to pay homage to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
