Content Description

Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin visited Ratchaburi province to commence the social security project throughout Thailand to the third generation of independent workers (regional) to strengthen independent workers’ security, access to life security, and social protection.
On October 28, 2020, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned Advisor to the Labour Minister Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan presided over the opening ceremony of the social security project across Thailand to the third generation of independent workers (regional area) at the Wadee 2 seminar room at a hotel in Muang, Ratchaburi. Advisory Board Member to the Labour Minister Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat also joined the event. Deputy Governor of Ratchaburi Mr. Prakob Wongmaneerung gave a welcoming and the Social Security Office’s Secretary-General Mr. Tosapol Kritawongwiman gave a report. The Labour Minister’s Advisor said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha has focused on driving the economy at the local level by enhancing social and life security for independent workers to create fairness and reduce inequality in society. Today, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin, therefore, assigned the Advisor to visit Ratchaburi to commence the social security project throughout Thailand to the third generation of independent workers in the region. The initiative aims to strengthen informal workers’ stability or independent workers to access life insurance and receive social protection. The Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office, therefore, promotes, supports and publicizes, for the people of the working-age, independent workers, home workers, elderly workers, and people with disabilities, to recognize the importance of having social security. It applies the social security protection system to enhance and develop a better quality of life for workers, supporting the policy to reduce social inequality according to government policy.
Mrs. Thiwalrat continued that from the National Statistical Office’s 2019 independent labour data survey, there were 20.4 million independent workers nationwide. Still, only 3.40 million people, or 16.67 percent, have access to Section 40 of the Social Security protection system, with a remainder of 17 million independent workers. Therefore, a key method to drive independent workers who have not yet entered the social security protection system is to promote public relations and create a network of cooperation with various sectors to drive the independent labour sector to ensure thorough social protection. The effort has organized social security projects throughout Thailand towards independent workers, communicative public relations to create awareness and understanding of public welfare in social security. It also encourages independent workers to access social protection. It is a development of network participation at the local level, supporting the people’s mobilization, especially farmers in Ratchaburi province, to have more security and protection.
