Content Description

The Labour Minister and Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Thienrat Navamawat, the Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Pairoj Chotiksetian, the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General, Mr. Prateep Songlamyong, and the Social Security Office’s Secretary-General, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, visit the Labour Department of the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore. They discussed labour matters with Mr. Chutintorn Kongsak, the Thai Ambassador at the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore, during the visit. The occasion took place at the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore. Mr. Suchart thanked the Thai Ambassador to Singapore for taking good care of Thai workers. The opportunity for Thai workers to work in Singapore will help them develop their skills, generate income, and enhance their family status. Today’s discussions will greatly benefit expanding the labour market in alignment with the government’s policy to focus on promoting Thai workers to travel to work abroad. It will provide Thai people with jobs and occupations, bring more income into the country and increase their competitiveness.

On this occasion, the Labour Minister and delegation met with the Thai labour volunteers in Singapore. They gave a lecture and delivered working policies and guidelines to the labour officials. He said that the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense, General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and the Ministry of Labour, under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, care for and encourage all staff of the Labour Department and all Thai labour volunteers abroad. The volunteers play an important part in coordinating and helping Thai workers abroad to receive information, including the protection of benefits and safety at work. Therefore, it is a good opportunity to meet everyone and show appreciation for helping the Ministry of Labour without compensation, which is truly volunteer work.

At present, nearly 20,000 Thai workers are working in Singapore. Most of them work as general workers, pipefitters, production workers, welders, construction workers, general production workers, general workers, steel structure assemblers, painters, and foremen. Employment is in the highest demand by employers in three fields: welders in the shipyard sector, followed by manufacturers of electronic components in the industrial sector, and skilled construction workers. This is a good opportunity for Thai workers to help expand the labour market to work in Singapore. Singapore has construction structures for government housing, the improvement of residential areas, public health projects, and infrastructure work, such as electric trains and commercial building construction. An increased number of hotels and attractions are undergoing renovations in preparation for tourism revitalization after the COVID-19 pandemic begins to ease.
