Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Assigns Advisor to Visit Ban Na Teen Community in Krabi to Promote Local Products, Careers, and Income in Welcoming Tourists

          On November 17, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned the Labour Minister’s Advisor, Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, to visit informal workers, elderly workers, and vulnerable worker groups in Krabi Province. Secretariat to the Labour Minister Mr. Suthep Chitayawong, Assistant Minister from the Prime Minister’s Office performing duties for the Ministry of Labour Police Major General Nantachat Supamongkol, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, the Department of Employment’s Director-General Pairoj Chotikasathian and officers of agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Krabi Province participated in the occasion at the Ban Na Teen Community Occupation Group, Moo 4, Ao Nang Subdistrict Mueang District, Krabi Province. Mrs. Thiwalrat said that the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha launched a policy to open the country to welcome tourists from November 1, which would result in employment at the local level. He instructed the Ministry of Labour to take care of community enterprises to be strong and sustainable, to enable professional groups from the grassroots level to develop further into SMEs in the future. This is especially for Krabi Province, a tourist city that generates income from tourism and is key for the economy. Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin recognizes the importance of promoting occupations that meet the needs of those areas. Therefore, he assigned his Advisor and her team visits the area to visit the informal occupation group, elderly workers, and vulnerable workers to support unemployed persons, those have been laid off, those who wait for seasonal work, natural disaster victims, informal workers, people with disabilities or their caregivers, and the general public to have a career that is needed. The visit also promotes social participation and strengthens both physically and mentally to recognize one’s values and potentially lead to a better quality of life. They also delivered equipment and tool to support occupations to participants.
          Ban Na Teen is a small Muslim community and a cultural attraction. It combines the community’s unique identity through batik cloth making, which can be applied as souvenirs to generate income for the community. At present, Ban Na Teen Community is in the process of product improvement and development of the organization and the environment at the village level. The goal is to drive the village to conserve tourist attractions and promote OTOP products that allow tourists to shop and buy handicraft products made by people in the community, such as batik cloth, handmade batik bags, and coconut shells products. The Krabi Employment Office has supported and promoted the project to prepare the workforce, activities to increase occupation and income for the informal sector on August 30-31, 2021. Training courses were provided, including the “Making a Handmade Backpack with Batik Patterns.” Materials were provided after the training, in which people who have been trained can earn an income of 5,000 – 10,000 Baht per month.
