The Labour Minister discussed with the Board of Trade of Thailand and listened to suggestions on the issue of adjusting the wage rate structure of Thai workers as an urgent matter. He emphasized that the adjustment of the wage rate must be following the consideration mechanism of the Wage Committee (tripartite).
On August 28, 2019, at 08.30 hours, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol and the ministry’s executive committee, welcomed Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand Mr. Kalin Sarasin and respective executive committee for a meeting to discuss official matters on labour. The meeting took place at the Labour Minister’s meeting room, 6th floor, Ministry of Labour.
The Labour Minister said that the meeting with the Thai Chamber of Commerce today discussed the issue of wage adjustment of Thai workers, enhancing workforce productivity and skill development, promoting the employment of potential workers in the labor market, the establishment of a Big Data Center for the Ministry of Labour, strengthening measures to resolve agricultural labour shortages, improvements in laws, regulations, and others, such as the amendment of the Labour Relations Act B.E….. The meeting also discussed protected jobs for Thais that foreign workers can do, promotion of Good Labour Practices (GLP) and the requirements of the Seafood Task Force (STF) standards. For urgent issues, the Thai Chamber of Commerce asked the Ministry of Labour to consider issues regarding wage adjustment of Thai workers, whereby the Chamber of Commerce has a consensus on the wage increase of Thai worker, but that it should not be equal throughout the country. It must be following the consideration mechanism from the Wage Committee (tripartite) and should consider skills. The visiting committee also encouraged the Ministry of Labour to promote setting standardized wage rates for all industries
The Labour Minister added that the Ministry of Labour had acknowledged all suggestions proposed by the Chamber of Commerce and assigned agencies under the Ministry of Labour take responsibility for various issues to proceed in the relevant areas.
