Labour Minister Shows Appreciation for Thai Workers Earning 800M Baht from Fruit Picking in Finland and Sweden over 3 Months

          The Labour Minister reported that the Prime Minister gives importance to deploying Thai workers to work abroad. He commended Thai workers for encompassing skills that are recognized by foreign employers and emphasized that officials at the Suvarnabhumi Jobseekers Checkpoint facilitate the 895 Thai fruit pickers returning to Finland and Sweden. He showed appreciation for the 3,270 Thai workers in the past 3 months that have earned the nation close to 800 million Baht.
          On October 8, 2020, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported that Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha emphasizes the deployment of Thai workers abroad, with honour and dignity. Many countries have currently shown interest in Thai workers, as Thai workers have good work discipline and skills. Furthermore, Thailand has various measures to control the spread of Covid-19. By sending Thai workers abroad, it will operate with the principle of safety for Thai workers.
          Mr. Suchart said that today, there are 365 Thai workers returning from Finland at 13.00 hours, and two groups returning from Sweden, including 254 people in the first group arriving at 11.30 hours, and 276 people at 14.40 hours at Suvarnabhumi; the two countries combined total 895 people. From October 1-7, a total of 3,270 Thai workers have returned from the two countries, comprising 689 from Finland and 2,581 from Sweden. These workers traveled to Finland to work as fruit pickers for the 2020 harvest season on July 29, for three months, earning approximately 80,000 Baht per month. They brought in nearly 800 million Baht in income to the country. For the care and facilitation of this group of Thai workers, the Suvarnabhumi Jobseekers Checkpoint by the Department of Employment, Ministry of Labour has airports supporting PE outfits and military personnel from the Department of Defense to oversee the operations of the Ministry of Labour, ensuring care and facilitation, supporting masks and rubber gloves. On arrival, all Thai workers are required to undergo a 14-day quarantine procedure at the facility provided by the state.
          “The Prime Minister has emphasized sending Thai workers to work abroad and commends them for their professional skills which are accepted by foreign employers. Thailand is a country that has controlled the spread of Covid-19 well. Today, I have emphasized that the Suvarnabhumi Jobseeker Checkpoint, Department of Employment, facilitates the Thai fruit pickers return from รFinaland and Sweden. This group of workers have sacrificed themselves to work abroad, to bring back income to their families and the nation,” Mr. Suchart concluded.
