The Labour Minister ordered its agencies to check the status of an employee involved in an accident at work, being injured by a fabric screening machine in Chonburi, to check if the worker is an insured person to ensure workers receive protection benefits according to the law.
On September 18, 2020, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin revealed that he was concerned about the employee involved in an accident at work, being injured by a fabric screening machine in Chonburi, which was in the news. Mr. Thosapon Promdee works as a general employee in a nano fabric sofa bed making factory. He was insured by a fabric screening machine where his left hand was caught in the machine as he pulled the machine down to press paper in the screening machine. The incident occurred on July 2, 2020, while bending over to pull the wrinkled paper, the employee’s left hand was pulled into the machine by the screening machine, injuring his left hand. Later, he was sent to Somdej Boromratchathewi Hospital at Sriracha and stayed in the hospital for one month. The doctor informed a burn on the thumb, and the index, middle, and ring finger underwent four surgeries and required physical therapy.
Mr. Suchart continued that the Social Security Office of Chonburi Province Sriracha branch has provided basic assistance in examining the worker’s information. They found no employer registration or insured person registration and followed up with the employer to register. The legal rights that the employee is entitled to include medical expenses, compensation in the event of time off work at 70 percent of wages, and dismemberment expenses. In addition, the Safety Center at Work Zone 2 and the Provincial Social Security Office staff will continue to investigate the employer further.
