Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin responded to the Prime Minister’s instructions to help employees of Thai Airways to receive benefits accounting to labour protection laws, in the case where the company has change employment conditions following the business revival plan.
On March 10, 2021, at 13.30 hours, at the Prof. Nikom Chandravithu meeting room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin chaired a meeting with approximately 150 representatives of the Thai Airways International PCL to negotiate a settlement on the dispute over the change in employment conditions under the Relaunch project of Thai Airways, conflict in amending fund regulations and other issues following the business rehabilitation plan and reorganization of all new employees of the company. The Labour Minister said that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and Ministry of Labour under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, has concern for the workers. The Ministry of Labour was instructed to take care of the workforce. In this regard, the Prime Minister assigned the Labour Minister to take care of the Thai Airways employees to be protected under the labour law. Today, the Labour Minister has taken action to solve this issue himself so that all problems can be resolved urgently and within the framework of the law.
Mr. Suchart said that for the requests of Thai Airways employees, he has already spoken to management. The claims that the employees have not been treated fairly must be brought together for discussion. The Ministry of Labour can act as an intermediary to negotiate with the employer and the employee together. At the same time, Thai Airways executives are trying to resolve employee benefits, all of which are under negotiation to reach a consensus under established law.
Mr. Nares Phuengyam, Advisor to the Thai Airways International Trade Union, thanked the government and the Ministry of Labour for not abandoning Thai Airways employees and for trying to mediate the situation to make it clearer, to ensure that all employees, both voluntary and non-voluntary, will be protected by the law.
