Labour Minister Upgrades Workers’ Skills Through 19 Training Online Courses Focusing on Digital Topics

The Ministry of Labour’s Department of Employment organized 19 training courses to enhance workers’ skills in technology in a Virtual Classroom Online Training format, targeting 580 people. The effort aims to accelerate support to rehabilitate people whose occupations were impacted by the COVID-19 situation.
          On September 27, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin presided over the opening ceremony of training courses to upgrade skills in the form of a Virtual Classroom Online Training, following measures to help people whose occupations were impacted by the COVID-19 situation. The occasion took place at the Prasong Rananant meeting room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour. The Labour Minister’s Advisor, Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, Secretariat to the Labour Minister Mr. Suthep Chitayawong, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics) Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mr. Prateep Songlamyong, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives also joined the opening ceremony of the training. Mr. Suchart said that Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, are concerned about workers affected by the COVID-19 situation. The Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development was assigned to conduct training for workers in skill upgrading courses in Virtual Classroom Online Training, following measures to help people whose occupations were impacted by the COVID-19 situation. The effort is in line with the Ministry of Labour’s proactive measures that focus on upgrading and developing skills (up skills, re skills, and new skills) to be quality workers and have careers to support themselves and their families amid such situations.
          Mr. Suchart continued that the Ministry of Labour has the policy to assist affected people following the mission. Thus, the Department of Skill Development (DSD) was assigned to develop training in the form of Virtual Classroom Online Training. In 2021, 11,692 people have been trained in this format. The training model has been continuously developed to improve efficiency. Courses that were selected aligned with technological changes and supported occupations in the new normal era. The survey of training needs for skill development classified the training into a total of 19 courses, consisting of online sales, 2D computer mechanical drawing, automatic lathe control programming for four-axis CNC, mill-turn with Mastercam, image-processing programming and artificial intelligence technology, advanced use of Microsoft Excel, using Microsoft Excel to manage inventory, smartphone repair, video content marketing and production using smartphone applications, doing business through online networks, online marketing management (e-commerce), production of advertising media and short films with smartphones, developing embedded systems in computing applications with Python, impression management, designing and editing images using Photoshop and Illustrator, electronic circuit design by computer, Karakuri Kaizen, techniques for using Adobe Photoshop, techniques for creating a store and selling products online, and techniques for creating multimedia media for tourism.
          The training is carried out by agencies under the DSD, namely the Institutes of Skill Development and the Offices of Skill Development in 21 provinces, namely Khon Kaen, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Chumphon, Chiang Mai, Trat, Nakhon Phanom, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Nakhon Sawan, Pattani, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Phitsanulok, Phuket, Rayong, Ratchaburi, Sisaket, Sakaeo, Udon Thani, Uttaradit and Ubon Ratchathani. The training was held between September 27 – 30, 2021, with 953 participants in attendance. The development of the quality of training in the form of a Virtual Classroom Online Training helps increase the efficiency of the learning system and create new skills for more workers. These courses focus on online selling skills, content creation, digital skills in Industry 4.0, and services, which are future career skills. It also focuses on the use of Big Data for business analysis. In addition to the above courses, in 2022, the DSD will introduce other courses of interest to many workers.
