On November 20, 2019, at 09.00 hours, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul and committee visited Chonburi for a briefing of the AMATA SMART CITY project, and on personnel management to support the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). The occasion took place at Amata Corporation PCL, Muaeng Chonburi, Chonburi. Amata Corporation PCL’s Director and Chief Marketing Officer Mr. Wiboon Kromadit welcomed the visiting committee. The Labour Minister spoke about the Ministry of Labour’s mission following the preparation to support the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). He said that the Ministry of Labour has an important task in labour management, employment promotions, skill development and protection over the rights and welfare of workers. These missions are key in supporting government policies that focus on highly skilled workers, ready to drive economic structural changes and elevate incomes equal to high-income countries, by promoting industries of the future in the Eastern Economic Corridor.
M.R. Chatumongol further said that the establishment of the Labour Management Center in the Eastern Economic Corridor, is the first role that the Ministry of Labour has initiated to facilitate the people in the area to receive labour services efficiently. It is one of the first agencies to collaborate with the Office of the Eastern Special Development Zone Policy Committee (SorKorPorOor) and has started to collate data on the survey of labour demand for establishments in the area, resulting in nearly 30,000 job placements in the past year. In addition, the Ministry of Labour has implemented skills development initiatives. From the assessment of needs for the future, there is demand for many workers in the area, and it is necessary for the workers to gain skills to support new industries in the future. Meanwhile, educational institutions are not able to prepare enough manpower. Thus, the ministry is working with schools, companies and those involved on good information management, to enable a view on clear guidelines and goals. The Ministry of Labour has introduced the national labour database to help link information from various departments. In addition, the database has been developed to track the movement of labour demand and connect agencies together and will continue to be developed in 2020.
The Labour Minister and committee then visited the exhibition and met interns from the workplace under the internship program with Fueng Pattana Foundation and FMM (Asia) Co., Ltd.
