Labour Minister’s Advisor Commences Labour Volunteer Network Empowerment Project in Nong Khai on Drug Prevention in the Workplace and Integration with MOL Missions for 2020

            On February 6, 2020, at 09.30 hours, Advisor to the Labour Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet presided over the opening ceremony of the labour volunteer network empowerment project to resolve drug issues and integrate with the missions of the Ministry of Labour in Nong Khai, for 2020. The meeting took place at the Pan Larn Boutique Resort, Baan Lao Jom Manee Road, Meechai, Muang, Nong Khai. Nong Khai Labour Office Mrs. Wannakan Khaolap gave a report. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet said that labour volunteers play an essential role in all areas of operations, whether it is public health, community development, disaster prevention, and mitigation, protecting the environment, security, justice, or labour. Each department will appoint volunteers to help with all operations. It can be considered that volunteers are people with great sacrifice, as volunteers are people who sacrifice their time that should be spent as a career or time from their personal and family lives. They are essential people to the development of the country and a significant force to work with both government and private organizations to help people who are suffering. 

            Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet further said that he would like to commend all labour volunteers, because being a volunteer requires public and generous spirit, by joining the Ministry of Labour and acting as a medium for cooperation and surveillance on unfair labour practices. Labour volunteers help liaise with government agencies under the Ministry of Labour and the people who experience labour issues in the community and society. They monitor unfair labour practices of using foreign workers in the area, launch awareness campaigns, and strengthen immunity in drug prevention among employees, in workplaces with less than ten employees, be aware of drug problems. They also give information about the current situation and event to the agencies under the Ministry of Labour prompting to resolve issues quickly. 

            The meeting had 62 volunteers from Nong Khai, intending to enhance knowledge about labour, missions, and coordination of labour services for labour volunteer networks, and also to strengthen understanding about drug prevention and problem-solving in the workplace.
