Labour Minister’s Advisor Donates Goods to Help Flood Victims in Phichit

         The Labour Minister assigned his advisor and committee to visit Tap Khlo, Phichit, to distribute relief bags, drinking water, instant noodles, multipurpose bags, necessary goods and utensils needed to alleviate the suffering of people affected by the ‘Podul’ floods.

        Today (September 3, 2019), Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul assigned Advisor to the Labour Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet along with the Department of Employment’s Deputy Director-General Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, Tap Khlo District Governor Mr. Wisit Benjapitakul and heads of government agencies and agency representatives from the Ministry of Labour to visit the affected areas, in front of Wat Mongkhol Thap Khlo, Tab Khlo, Phichit. The Labour Minister’s Advisor and committee brought 720 bottles of drinking water, 500 packets of instant noodles, 150 multipurpose bags, and 50 survival bags to distribute to flood victims and the insured.
        According to the report from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) today (September 3, 2019), Phichit has affected areas in 9 districts including Thap Khlo, Wang Sai Phun, Sam Ngam, Sak Lek, Bang Mun Nak, Saphan Hin, Wachirabarami. Pho Prathap Chang and Muaeng Phichit. There are 25 sub-districts affected, covering 108 villages, 5,468 households, 83,540 rai of agricultural land damaged, 680 animals and 3 temples/schools. There have been 2 deaths from drowning. In terms of assistance for the deaths, the Ministry of Labour’s Phichit Provincial Social Security Office has examined the information and the names of people who have died. Initial investigations have found that the deceased were not insured in any way. Phichit province has provided initial assistance according to the regulations of 25,000 Baht for each deceased person and has announced for assistance in the area. In addition, the district and local government organizations have provided preliminary assistance, and the provincial offices and military have supported equipment, tools, and personnel in all areas, continuously tracking the water level of the river and weather to prepare for the situation.
        Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak said that the Labour Minister also instructed the government agencies under the Ministry of Labour to work with the local authorities, including the institute and the Office of Skill Development in the area to establish a coordination center to help the people, and if people need shelter, to consider the dormitory area of the agency as a temporary shelter to alleviate the suffering. After the floods, the officials will survey the damage to houses, household appliances, agricultural tools, and vehicles to arrange a team of repair service personnel and training for knowledge as well. Organizations, employees, insurers, and people affected by the ‘Podul’ storm can request help at all departments of the Ministry of Labour nationwide, or call the Ministry of Labour’s 1506 hotline, 24 hours a day.
