Labour Minister’s Advisor Donates Goods to Help Flood Victims in Phitsanulok

        The Labour Minister assigned his Advisor and committee to visit Wangthong, Phitsanulok, to donate necessary consumer goods to alleviate the suffering, and urged agencies to survey the damage to organize repairs for housing, electronic appliances, vehicles and agricultural tools.

         On September 2, 2019, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul assigned Advisor to the Labour Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet along with heads of government agencies and agency representatives from the Ministry of Labour in the areas affected by the ‘Podul’ storm at Ban Wang Phrom School, Village No. 7, Wang Thong, Wang Thong, Phitsanulok. The areas had 319 affected households totaling 1,179 people. Advisor to the Labour Minister and the committee gave out 200 sets of rice boxes with 600 bottles of drinking water, to provide initial alleviation to the victims. The agencies under the Ministry of Labour will survey the suffering of the victims in the area to provide further assistance, such as repairing electrical appliances and agricultural tools that have been damaged.
         According to the situation report on September 1, Phitsanulok was affected in 4 districts, namely Wang Thong, Noen Maprang, Nakhon Thai and Bang Krathum, whereby the damaged agricultural area reached 117,200 rai in 24 sub-districts covering 99 villages. There was 1 death and 6,570 people affected. The Phitsanulok Provincial Labour Protection and Welfare Office’s report found that there were 5 affected businesses, totaling 3,666 employees. A total of 63 employees were affected, most of which were staff homes that were flooded, causing inability to work.
         Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak said that the Labour Minister also instructed the government agencies under the Ministry of Labour to work with the local authorities, including the institute and the Office of Skill Development in the area to establish a coordination center to help the people, and if people need shelter, to consider the dormitory area of the agency as a temporary shelter to alleviate the suffering. After the floods, the officials will survey the damage to houses, household appliances, agricultural tools, and vehicles to arrange a team of repair service personnel and training for knowledge as well. Organizations, employees, insurers, and people affected by the ‘Podul’ storm can request help at all departments of the Ministry of Labour nationwide, or call the Ministry of Labour’s 1506 hotline, 24 hours a day.
